ABOUT ME

Hello! I'm Monica and I am currently backpacking around Europe with my partner Matt. We've been on the road for just over five months now and have been to Spain, Morroco, France, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, the Czech Republic and have just arrived in the UK. I am absolutely loving being on the road and having the freedom to do what ever we want to. We are the sort of people that like to be spontaneous in our travelling and therefore don't tend to plan things too far in advance - things can be a lot more fun that way but also means that we sometimes need to send out last minute requests...

I'm easy going, love to laugh, like being creative and eager to try / experience new things.

PHILOSOPHY

Try anything at least once and know that putting yourself out of your comfort zone can be a good thing!

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have hosted, been hosted and met some incredible people through group meetings/events or individual meet-ups. I think there is something very special about CS that attracts like-minded people.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I'm pretty new to this but have already had a great experience hosting Ruth in Australia and we have since visited her in Germany! Since travelling, we have only had positive experiences with CS (including an amazing CS meeting in Barcelona with about 60 people from all over the world!). It is especially lovely just to meet up with people for a coffee or drink and get some local perspective into their city/town. I'm hoping to meet many more of the couch surfing community during the course of my travels!

Interessen

Music is a big part of my identity - I am a classically trained flautist but enjoy all sorts of music, love going to gigs and have recently started singing in a band.

I also love food - especially creating and sharing a meal with friends. Indian is a particular favourite and I have spent many hours in the kitchen with Matt creating yummy vegetarian curries. I am looking forward to many new food discoveries whilst away (my latest discovery from home is a little Ethiopian Cafe where you eat delicious stews using special bread instead of cutlery).

I also enjoy reading, throwing a frisbee around, snorkelling and meeting new people.

Hiking for 9 days in the Norwegian mountains - breathtakingly beautiful!

Lehren, lernen, teilen

I'm the sort of person who just loves experiencing and learning new things. I thrive on it.

As a flautist, I maintain that I can teach anyone to make a sound on a beer bottle! Singing with people also makes me very happy.

I did a year of German at uni and would welcome the opportunity to practice or even share the little I know. I am also interested in languages despite my lack of proficiency in them (but I can learn, right?)

I can make a mean dal and would be more than happy to share my methods!
