ABOUT ME

In October 2010, I got a brainy idea to put together a travel guide of 50 U.S. cities, figuring that there were others out there like myself who would appreciate having at their fingertips what they could do in a city on a limited budget...say, $100. And so I'm off to play tourist; to explore, to talk to the locals, to seek out the deals, and then have the information compiled into a phone app and e-book.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I love hosting travelers. I've been a Trail Angel to dozens of trail hikers (as many as 14 one night). They stay as long as they need to, eat, sleep where they can, do laundry, & run errands with my car. Since I'm on the road the next six months, I'm the one needing a Trail Angel...a host in the cities I'm visiting :-)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I only learned about couch-surfing from a fellow hostel guest while in Detroit. He told me it was awesome. To date, I have visited 14 cities, have stayed in hostels, on military bases, campsites, and my car. I have 35 remaining cities to cover, and would like to give couch-surfing a go. Besides, I'd get to meet some folks who live in these cities and learn from them about the city they call home, and what 100 bucks can get a vacationer.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've had my breath taken away by things both grand and simple: lakes so deep they appear purple, high-ceiling cathedrals, newborns, the St. Louis Arch, a bird bathing...

I've assisted at-risk kids face their trust issues on a High Ropes course, I got a 8-wheel drive Army vehicle airborne, I worked in the Baring Sea during crab season & ridden 20' ocean swells, I thru-hiked 2100 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail, and now I have the august pleasure of driving to 50 cities in the US researching a travel guide. How cool is that?
