About Me

Hi there, I'm currently in a PhD program at University of Florida, and I'm studying a linguistics called Systemic Functional Linguistics.

When I travel, there is always a main purpose of visiting the place, other than sightseeing; it's usually attending professional conferences, visiting my old friends, and going to some events. So I would not stay at your place for a very long time. That being said, I love talking to interesting people, so I would like to talk to you over a meal, coffee, or even a walk. I will enjoy listening to you talk about what you're passionate about, what you do for living, and/or what you like about your city or neighborhood.

I'm looking forward to talking to you soon!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I just opened this Couchsurfing account because (1) one of my roommates is a heavy user of this plat form and he strongly recommends and (2) I would like to meet new, interesting people. As I get older, it is getting hard to meet new people, especially if you are still in school when you're in your late 30's LOL.

I like Pops (American, J, and K).

My favorite Japanese movies are "No body knows", "Spirited Away", "Princess of Mononoke", and "Whisper of the Heart" and many others.
My favorite American movies are "50 first dates", "Vanilla Sky", Harry Potter series, and many others.

My favorite books in English are "How to Win Friends and Influence People" by Dale Carnegie, "Rich Dad Poor Dad" by Robert Kiyosaki, "The Pig That Wants to Be Eaten" by Julian Baggini, and "Why Men Don't Listen and Women Can't Read Maps" by Allan Pease and Barbara Pease.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hmm, I guess I'm in the process of doing one--getting a PhD!

Teach, Learn, Share

Ask me about linguistics, especially second language acquisition! Or academic writing and reading!

What I Can Share with Hosts

My perspective on Japanese culture from an Okinawan point of view, experience as a former English teacher in Japan, an ELL tutor in Ohio, and a PhD student in Florida.

I also can teach how to make easy Japanese dishes like oyako-don and okonomiyaki.

Countries I’ve Visited
