About Me

ABOUT ME

I'm currently a studying environmental engineering at the University of Washington, and am strongly interested in water systems and sustainability.

I joined college after a few years of travelling and working in different parts of the world. So I've done a some conservation and restoration work, taught at a non-profit school in India, and worked on a number of organic farms and urban gardening projects in the US. I also traveled though India and Nepal, parts of Europe, and much of the continental USA.

I like deep traveling experiences and getting out of my comfort zone; so I often hitch hike, and in the past have spent long periods of time on one place.

I've got some interesting stories.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I hosted quite frequently when I first joined couchsurfing 4 years ago, and then for 2 years or so I was traveling and moving frequently, so I've surfed and made many couchsurfing friends. I hitch hike a lot, so a lot of times my couchsurfing is a very last minute thing! I'm still surprised how well it works even then.

After a year of very little traveling, I'm now opening my home to travelers and trying to surf some more!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Till now, the experience has been great. It is such a relief to be able to leave hostels and meet local people who know a thing or two about the city. I am continuously astounded by how generous people are, and I try to be that way when I'm hosting.

Interests

I try to write as much as I can, practice handstands, play sports (though when I say football I mean soccer) read like a maniac, and am fairly outdoorsy. I'm always trying to dive into new things. I learn languages that often have little relevance to the place I'm in.

Music, Movies, and Books

Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts; its descriptions are like full color film photography, I would recommend it to anyone.
Anything by George Orwell, or John Steinbeck, or Kurt Vonnegut; these awe-inspiring hardly mortal geniuses.
I'm reading a few black authors these days; James Baldwin, Michelle Alexander, Ta-Nehisi Coates
"A People's History of the United States" by Howard Zinn, is a must read.

I'm trying to listen to more classical music and folk, and would love to hear diverse sounds from around the world, on the acoustic side.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I left high school and plunged into a world of travel and learning in which I've done a lot of amazing things; trekked around the Everest base camp, hitch hiked in Europe and the USA, worked on a vineyard, taught at a rural school, I've been a reporter a national newspaper, and built a cottage out of earth and straw.

Teach, Learn, Share

I practice yoga and would love to share. I've been a middle distance and long distance runner for a very long time, and could help you with that. I cook up occasional storms, would love to cook with you or teach you to garden.

And if you'd like to learn some Hindi, I'd love to help, maybe do a language swap? I'm looking to learn more German and Italian.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm more than happy to cook up some meals or bring some drinks, trade travel stories, and chip in for groceries.
