Name is Twan, 24 years old, living in Leiden.

I started travelling as a hobby in January 2014 when I visited Kiev. Since then I've been travelling through most of Europe. I hope to visit farther destinations like Canada and South-East Asia after I've 'finished' Europe.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I came across many people during my latest trip to Georgia who recommended me to the website. After many nights in boringly empty dorm rooms I decided to create a profile.

Travelling is a great way to meet new people. But unfortunately you mainly stick to other tourists when you stay in hostels (not necessarily a bad thing, but not why you're in the area). I hope that through CS I can get in touch with locals more easily.

Because of this I also hope to get most out of it. I want to spend time with my guests, and with my hosts.

Finally, hostels in Western Europe are awful. Annoying personnel, many rules and restrictions (pay for towels, come on?!?).

Aside from travel and linguistics, I enjoy architecture and cooking. I'm still researching my other potential interests.

Music, Movies, and Books

I've listened to classical music and heavy metal all my life. Currently developed a passion for Avant-Garde, whether it is Penderecki or Arcturus. Also K3.

My favourite movies are Léon, One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest, and anything created by Stanley Kubrick.

I read some classics on occasion., presently biting my teeth into Ulysses.

I can teach clicks and other weird sounds used in African languages.
I can teach the basics of Mongolian throat singing.

I've spent some time mastering West-African cooking. I'm very interested in learning more about the cuisines of the countries I visit and taking some of it back to the Netherlands. We desperately need new recipes here.
