About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To pursue reason, adventure, beauty, and good humor. Under stress, the last will suffice.
PHILOSOPHY
"A ship in harbor is safe, but that is not what ships are built for." - William Shedd
"The pessimist complains about the wind; the optimist expects it to change; the realist adjusts the sails." - William Arthur Ward
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
While I have had over a dozen great experiences sleeping on couches and carpets of "friends I hadn't met yet", they were all organized through the specific event I was attending or through friends-of-friends. I am eager to add some CouchSurfing experiences and see how they compare.
I have hosted a few times (non-CS), but my location's lack of popularity as a travel destination have limited the frequency of those experiences.
Interests
Physically: Lindy/Blues dancing, kayaking, long strategy games, Open Source/Fedora, hiking, motorcycles, snowboarding/skiing, and good books (often speculative fiction).
Metaphysically: Experientially studying the similarities and differences between philosophies/motivations across group boundaries, and that feeling when you start to understand something that used to really confuse you.
