ABOUT ME

I'm a first year grad student in medieval history here in Iowa City. I enjoy exploring Iowa City on my bike (I'm currently car-free) and spending evenings with my cohort and some college buddies who now live in Iowa City.

For some more background, I grew up in Iowa, right on the Mississippi River. I also went to college in Iowa, but I have traveled a lot outside the state and throughout the U.S. So far, I've been to about half the states, including Hawaii. I also spent Aug. 2011-July 2012 living in Muenster, Germany on a Fulbright research grant, which I loved. While I was in Germany, I visited 13 of the 16 German states as well as several other countries: Belgium, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, France, and England. I love doing things outside - especially water activities like swimming or canoeing - as well as learning more about an area's history and culture, and just the experience of travel in general.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I still feel pretty new to Couchsurfing, but I really enjoyed getting to know some couchsurfers during my stay in Muenster, and I'm looking forward to getting involved in whatever community I can find in Iowa city, either through hosting or through events.

Movies: Little Miss Sunshine, Fight Club, Anything involving Clint Eastwood, Anything with an intermission.

One of the most amazing things I have done in my life was the year I spent abroad in Germany. It was a great learning opportunity both personally and professionally, and I am very thankful to have the opportunity to live and research while immersing myself in another culture.
