About Me

🦄 Good day!
I’m Udo.

I live in Amsterdam, Oud-West. Full-time vegetarian and occasional pescatarian. I’m allergic to (cheap) perfumes, scented laundry detergents, deodorants, air fresheners, indifference, neo-liberals and worse.

I do my best to maintain a daily yoga practice, you’re not expected to join (unless you want to, of course).

I view Couchsurfing primarily as a social platform, and I host with that spirit in mind. If you send a request, I’ll assume you’ve read my full profile—including the “My Home” section—and that you’re in agreement with everything mentioned.

I value some connections, appreciate requests that are honest, clear, personal, and well-motivated. Please be open and specific: how many people (maximum of 2), how many nights, and where you currently travelling from.
I’d love to hear your thoughts and intentions—expectations of Amsterdam.
And what made you reach out to me in particular?

I do my best to maintain a 100% response rate within max. 2 days for those who take the time to write a thoughtful request.

We’ll see how our paths align.

Amsterdam is essentially a large village—or a small town, with a rather exaggerated reputation for freedom and independence. Like many other (European) cities, it leans heavily into tourism.
Still, it remains a uniquely beautiful place, shaped by a complex colonial history of trade, conquest and slavery. The old city centre, the architecture, the cultural offerings.

Most things are within walking or cycling distance. Public transport, both urban and regional, is fairly reliable, though not cheap. A bicycle remains the best way to get around Amsterdam and its surroundings.

Please read my full profile, including the “My Home” section and all additional information. And in your request, do include something to show that you actually did.

NOTE:
Amsterdam housing marked is way overcooked. This is a complex matter for which regrettably I am not willing nor able to advise, host or support.

A big NO to Disney thank you.
📖 Dyslectic slow reader, non-fiction history. some NL literature, mainly Comics/Graphic Novels, drawn to old school encyclopaedias.
Since the recent openly joined forces of business and politics I abandoned all Meta-apps Insta, FB and WhatsApp.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Swimming with mantas at Komodo islands, traveling Indonesia. I rather not fly anymore though. 💨

Teach, Learn, Share

-My home, live life, cook, drink (not persé alcoholic, sober curious), eat, (vegetarian, occasionally pescatarian), sleep.
- Navigating the hostile Amsterdam (bike) traffic,
-Sailing. However I do not have a boat, my friends have, and I sometimes rent a small one for a day.
-Surviving this beautiful and cruel world. :-)

What I Can Share with Hosts

Up till now I only host. If I ever will surf, I can share my ability to repair things (except for broken hearts and minds). My somewhat weird and original character loyal and open to sincerety.
It comes without saying (well, I anyway say it here) I am tidy and doing my chores, both at home as well as at others. Usually leaving places at least as I found them or better, as I expect the same from my guests.

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, England, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, Indonesia, Italy, Lebanon, Luxembourg, Mexico, Morocco, Norway, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Russian Federation, Serbia, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United States, Uzbekistan
