About Me

Hi, my name is Vladimir. I come from Belarus from a Ukrainian family, while from 2020 I live in the wonderful city of Krakow, Poland. Here I study philology and work as a teacher of Polish as a foreign language.

I consider myself to a tolerant and open-minded guy who likes to talk about culture, languages, people, history, politics and who above all loves to listen. I'm rather quiet, but time to time I also like to party - it all depends on the people I'm with.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I started actively traveling in 2018, while I almost always went to countries where I knew people who would be able to show me the place and its culture. In contrast, the more I travel to countries where I don't know any people, the more I understand that a tourist-only experience is not enough for me: I want to learn about new places through the lens of the people who live there.

Music, Movies, and Books

Speaking of music - I like different genres, but in the first place is folk music, combined with other musical genres. But I'm not limited by this: my playlist will include plenty of songs in the style of indie, pop, industrial, rock, etc. Among my favorite performers I can mention DakhaBrakha, Vivienne Mort, Goran Bregović, Adele, Kirszenbaum, Hrdza.

Favorite movies and series? I have loved fantasy since I was a child, so I will mention The Lord of the Rings and The Game of Thrones. I also like quality dramas, comedies and independent films.

Unfortunately, I rarely read lately, but prefer mostly fiction, mostly from the 20th century.

Favorite computer game: Sid Meier's Civilization V.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I don't know. I can't isolate one thing.
Moving to another country?
Studying niche Slavic philology?
Protesting against the dictatorship in Belarus?
Telling my homophobic father that I'm gay?

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm good at linguistics, geography, politics and history of European countries, especially those in the East and Southeast.
I would like to hang out with people who like the place where they live and who will help me get acquainted with it in a non-tourist way.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can offer you help with the home stuff. Cooking? You got it. Cleaning? Give me the vacuum cleaner.
