About Me

Check me out on twitter - @unmeshk

I was good at numbers as a kid studied too much - ended up paying almost all my earning in taxes. I decided to break away from the corporate chain of things and returned back to India to start something from scratch.

I used a karate black belt to hold my pyjamas as a kid and have more recently become a yoga freak.

A game of Thrones addict and Apple fanboy.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My father always told me,
"Speak to someone whose first language is not the same as yours, make friends with those who are not of your same social stature, befriend those from another country. That is how you grow as a person"

Going to a place where nobody knows you is a very liberating experience. I am here to meet new people, make new friends, get inspired by the positives in other cultures and keep my mind open for longer than I can imagine ;)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

As a kid growing up in india, it is an absolute dream to get an Engineering degree, go to the US for an MS degree, get a job in the US with a good salary, settle down, get married, get kids, and finally get a green card to 'be happy'

I went through the process half way to realize it was not my dream. In 2009 after the financial meltdown, when people were scrambling to hold on to their jobs, unemployment rates in the US had hit 9.5% (the lowest in 15 years) I went upto my boss and told him I am not happy and quit. It meant I would give my employer visa and have to leave the country.

I went on a 10,000 mile road trip from Philadelphia to San-Francisco in a rented Chevy, a tent from Wal-mart which I eventually returned coz it was broken and a wallet with $300. Me and my friend slept under the stars near the majestic Monument Valley, Grand Canyon, the Rockies and drove all along the beautiful Colorado river for 1 month.

Never though twice about going to a new place after that day.
