About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Explore, learn, help myself and humanity to achieve its full potential

ABOUT ME

It's hard to describe myself as I'm in a constant state of evolution. I've always been fascinated by the world and its infinite possibilities, whether from a scientific perspective and lately from a more human, spiritual, and political angle. I believe humans have an innate curiosity about their environment; while camping as a child I would spend most of my time exploring the surroundings on a bike, and eventually I had the change to explore the world with a backpack.

I studied engineering briefly, but entered a phase of seemingly random travels, work experiences and studies, and ended up working as a graphic and web designer for three years. After purchasing a condo and a car and being on track to make a comfortable, stable living for myself, I realized that this was not the kind of lifestyle that made me happy, on the contrary. I wanted to go back out there, take risks and soak in as much of life as I could.

I would need to rethink everything: myself, my life, my beliefs, society, laws, humanity, the universe, its secrets and mysteries.

My current goals include growing as a person, learning and experiencing sustainable/ecological living, travelling, meeting people with similar interests, and find concrete ways to be more active politically. I believe humanity is in its infancy, in a critical stage of its evolution, and I would like to see the birth of a global, peaceful, cooperative society that transcends current technologies, laws and frontiers.

Though you can't tell from this profile, I really like to joke around to take a break from all the seriousness of philosophy, politics and science. I'm always up for South Park or Monty Python!

PHILOSOPHY

My personal philosophy is constantly changing and improving over time. It's difficult not knowing exactly what to believe in, but on the other hand I find progress and change very useful in my personal growth. I have put depression, anger and despair behind me, and I am now fueled by the wide range of possibilities in front of me.

I believe personal freedom can only be achieved through a leap of faith and the acceptance that the world is a vast place where nothing is exactly as it seems. Truth may be impossible to find, but I consider the search for truth just as good!

I see myself as a world citizen, and although I would never harm another human being, the only laws I truly respect are the laws of physics, which cannot be broken. I believe one should always leave a place in a better state than (s)he entered it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I haven't participated yet! I am spending the winter travelling in the United States (RV with the folks!), and in spring I will decide what my next step will be. I would like to try couch surfing, hopefully to meet people who are more experienced in alternative lifestyles, sustainable living, political activism, permanent travelling, etc.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I am new to CouchSurfing and haven't had any experience with it so far!

Interests

I have an unquenchable thirst for knowledge, and although I learned a lot at school, my most valuable knowledge comes through research, thinking, and personal experiences. I've always been interested in science (physics, chemistry, biology, psychology, history), and later in life I developed an interest in photography and design.

I spent some time researching the esoteric and conspiracy theories, but I found out it wasn't the kind of thing I wanted to spend serious energies on. Speculation is entertaining and can help open up your mind, but it's too easy to get lost and fall down the rabbit hole. I still thoroughly enjoy talking about it though, especially when there's marijuana in the air!

Since I already have a solid grasp in 'left-brain' science, I am now spending a lot of time reading and thinking about philosophy, spirituality and politics. I don't subscribe to any one view in particular, I prefer to read up on as many perspectives as possible and take the best of each. Nietzsche, Buddha and Chomsky are three of the many people I've found extremely inspiring.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Working as an au pair in Tuscany, Italy was one of the greatest experiences in my life. Living with an Italian family was a much more thorough experience than my backpacking trip in Europe, and I got a close look into one of the many fascinating cultures in the world.

Climbing Mount Fuji during the night and arriving at the top just in time to see the sun rise above the clouds was a breathtakingly beautiful moment. Buildings and temples from hundreds of years ago have always been of great interest to me, but nature is hard to beat.

Negative experiences have also had a significant impact on my life. I was strangled half to death and mugged in Barcelona, and went through a period of depression after college which, ironically, both helped me reconsider who I was and my place in the world and in the end made me grow considerably as a person.

Teach, Learn, Share

I believe every human being can lead a better life through a better understanding of itself and its environment. I strive to develop a better physical/scientific/logical/left-brain as well as spiritual/psychological/creative/right-brain understanding of the universe. Both of them come together in a delicate balance that can then be used as a complex model/construct of the world, and along with a wide range of perspectives, one can become a better person and improve their own lives, the life of others, and humanity as a whole.

I love digging (metaphorical) holes and challenge people to think differently. I want to change the world and I honestly believe that I have solid ideas to bring to the table. I've always enjoyed designing and building things with my hands, though I have a lot left to learn!

I would like to meet passionate people with similar interests and learn as much as possible from them. I've always been too comfortable being on my own, and I need to push myself to go out there and interact with others more openly.
