ABOUT ME

Hi All
I am an educated, well traveled straight man living the Lifestyle Design concept made famous by Tim Ferris and the Four Hour Work Week. I make my living from a couple of websites (I am a Psychologist and Hypnotherapist) which allows me to make a living online and travel.

I have just returned to NZ from living a while in Thailand after a 6 month SE Asia trip, and plan to visit Sth American the Caribbean and then Mexico and finally back to Las Vegas over the next 2-4. I returned to NZ from Asia due to a family member being ill, but all is well now and I thought I would tour the South Island while here

I am a fairly experienced traveler, at least I have lived in several countries over my lifetime but no where near enough for me to settle down just yet and have a variety of friends from all walks of life. I am a little more mature than the average couch surfer more interested in the social and tourism aspect of traveling as my party hard days are over.

I am particularly interested in staying and meeting fellow folks who are using the internet to earn their income or other lifestyle designers - but we are a rare breed and I put this out there only to stimulate interest from others of my species (haha).

In general I am easy going, and as a therapist get on well with most people as I tend not to be too judgmental or have unrealistic expectations. I am if I admit myself a pretty interesting person and enjoy stimulating conversations and self growth topics. I am grounded in a scientific approach now but are was a new age hippy in my youth.

Right now while back in my

PHILOSOPHY

I believe that this life is my one and only one, and rather than spending 40 years building a house and raising a family and saving to retire and enjoy life, I am having a series of mini retirements now. I want to do and experience the world now, not when I am 60 and my body does not work so well or I have lost interest in adventure and settled into a boring life

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am currently in my home country, and while I went to many couch surfing meetings and events while in Asia, I mostly stayed in Hostels and Condos so I missed out on those all important reviews.

I want to bulk up my friends and ratings on couchsurfing, as the reality is it often makes a difference when you are in more unfamiliar areas overseas. I am interested in the social aspects as well as a bed to stay if possible.

I have had backpackers stay with me when I have had stable living arrangements and know what it is like to truly appreciate someone who cooks, cleans and generally helps with the maintenance of the property and treats it with the honor you have as a guest. I reciprocate this attitude.

I am willing to contribute with food but do not expect tours or food to be provided.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have been to many of the social events, and used couchsurfing while in the Philippines, but have not really been using it to stay with people. So my reviews are a little limited and thought I should address this while in NZ with some locals

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One of my first experiences that made travel an interest to me was on my first trip overseas, I sat at Glastonbury Tor in England. This is a place of myth .. home of Camelot and King Arthur and even further back are stories of Jesus coming there with his uncle during the bibles 'missing years' and more lately a new age community favorite place. I was sitting on the hill at sunrise, the landscape was covered in mist which looked like an ocean with the odd hill sticking out. For a brief second I had an experience of my awareness moving out into and becoming at one with everything, trees, cows, a stream .. everything.

I am a practical person and fully accept that this was a hiccup in my brain rather than a real thing - but the experience was amazing, I can totally see how people can have such spiritual or religious experiences and change who they are.

I have been awestruck by nature a few times since then, and developed my interest in psychology and the potential of the mind from this event. One of the first things that I thought was pretty cool after learning hypnosis, I had a client who was a 5 year old boy with a fear of needles, and required them for an ear operation. His mother came to me because he bite 3 nurses and a doctor trying to hold him down to give him a shot. Long story short I taught him to numb his hand and stick a syringe through the skin.

At each stage I suggest you could say to your dad, "hey dad if i can pick up a needle will you give me $5", followed by "If I can touch my hand with the needle will you give me $5". The client called me later that night excited and told me proudly he had made $25 from his father and his father could not believe he was poking needles through his skin. The ability to make such a huge change in the life of another who really needed it really touched me
