About Me

A short bio to get a general idea -

PHILOSOPHY

Here's something I wrote as a teenager once, that has helped me make many choices -

(lines in Hindi)
---------------------------------------------------
"Duniya ki na kar tu parwah,
Ruswai hai bas pal do pal,
Path par kaante anek hai raahi,
Manzil ko bas dekh chala chal!"
---------------------------------------------------

Translation and thought behind the above lines:

"Don't worry about the world or what people say about you or how you go about yourself. It's their job to tell you 'otherwise' in any matter.
There are loads of hardships involved. But just evolve as an individual, keep your eyes on the goal and just keep going (not necessarily - climbing) towards it and live fully whatever comes along!"

------- HOSTING -------

If you're relatively new to Couchsurfing, it might be easy to miss out on the "My Home" section of the profile. So, while sending a couch request, do go through it to set expectations about the location, sleeping arrangements, key-sharing, distances and more such details :)
In the app, it's usually when you click on "Read More" next to the Accepting Guests / Maybe accepting guests part.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To widen perspectives.

Have surfed with awesome hosts! Have met quite a few people while traveling as well, ever increasing the awe for different cultures around the world.

Interests

As one's personality evolves with time, so do the interests, I believe. So I do conform with different things at different times. Generically, I am interested in poetry, movies & tv series, anything travel related, geeky programming stuff, philosophically challenging conversations and behavioral psychology.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music - Mostly Sufi songs and Ghazals are on my playlist. If not then Pink Floyd, Bob Dylan or in general Blues, Folk, Country, Reggae.. I guess I have a very generic taste in music. I love to listen to all kinds of stuff from time to time beyond the restrictions of genre. There was a phase when I used to love Metal as well but it is long gone :) Sometimes Psytrance and Techno (in the right environment, of course!), anything goes based on the mood!

Books - Did I say earlier that I am a big Potterhead?! So, Harry Potter. And then poets and authors - Mirza Ghalib, Jeffrey Archer, Murakami, Dan Brown, Chomsky. Mostly given up on reading these days. But wish to get lost again in that world some day.

Movies - Oh my! A lot!! The ones I have written below are just ones I can think of to set a pattern for people with similar taste to get an idea :)

Hollywood - Requiem for a Dream | Seven Psychopaths | Tree of Life | The Fountain | Boyhood | A Clockwork Orange | Godfather trilogy | Black Swan | Pi - The movie | Captain Fantastic | Grave of the Fireflies | Up | Inside Out | Pulp Fiction | One flew over the Cuckoo's nest | The Artist | The Grand Budapest Hotel | Forrest Gump | Cast Away | The Terminal | A Beautiful Mind | Antichrist | The Bicycle Thief | 12 Angry Men | It's a Beautiful Life | Casablanca | Dead Poets' Society | My Neighbor Totoro | Bambi | Se7en | The Man from Earth | Samsara | Mother! | The Dark Knight | 12 Years a Slave | Star Wars | Star Trek | The Matrix series | Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri | The Danish Girl | The Theory of Everything | The Green Mile | Shutter Island | The Shawshank Redemption | Schindler's List | Inception | | Lord of The Rings | Fight Club | The Prestige | City of God | Saving Private Ryan | The Departed | Psycho | American Psycho | Dallas Buyers' Club | Birdman | Memento | The Departed | The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus | In Time | Donnie Darko | Inglourious Basterds | The Exorcist | Silence of The Lambs | Cloud Atlas | Her | A Walk to Remember | 50 First Dates | Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind | The Notebook | P.S. One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Amazing is quite relative, but a few memorable moments or travels in life that I can talk about distinctly -

-- Quit my job and undertook an all-India motorbike trip in summers of 2015, for about 3 months, covering a distance of around 15,000 kms with my faithful - 'Kaali', an Avenger 220cc model :) I am trying to convert the encounters and stories from the travel into a book.

-- Traveling in Norway and Svalbard to chase my childhood obsession of seeing the Northern lights, where I camped in the wild alone in winter conditions and was in the realm of Polar bears - closest I could be to the North Pole.

-- A road trip in US and A (read Borat style!) with a friend of mine, spanning 9000+ miles and abundant nature of the country, mostly along the west and center!

-- My time in Colombia, a 5-day trek to the Lost City in the beautiful Sierra Nevada and an encounter with a paramilitary group in the last day, and the most tranquil days spent in the Amazon rainforest, staying with a community of indigenous people.

-- Skydiving in Dubai, can't ever forget that feeling of the jump!

-- My time in Goa, some spiritual and self-discovering moments, camping in a tent alone on a beach and living a nomad life for more than an year while freelancing and working from the beach.

-- Saved life of a kid and a cat in the cruel Pune traffic in a Super-heroic looking incident! :D
