About Me

HI! I'm Vanessa, from a small town in the swedish forest and now exploring the world and trying to complete my life long wish of writing a book. I am a person of many colors I would say. A little bit of everything. I love doing things, from picking blueberries alone in the forest to throw myself from an airplane or spend hours painting a picture even though I'm not that good at it. I'm a sucker for anything that says eco or vegan or actually just nature in general. I love traveling but hate being a tourist. I eat too much ice cream. I hope to save the world some day but am still not sure how. And I'm quite fun I think in a sarcastic kind of way.

I travel together with my boyfriend Fran. He is all the opposite and also all the same as I am. He is a neardy soccer fan, a perfectionist cooker that watches over my shoulder when I chop an onion, the kind of guy that goes alone to a bar and comes out with ten new friends and a job offer. And he's from Argentina!! We met in Brazil in January 2016 and travel together since July.

I could write ten pages here but you're just going to have to invite us to know the rest.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I started traveling south America in January 2016 after having graduated high school and working 24/7 for a few months. It was my first back packing experience but I have travelled a lot before, both with friends and with my family. I then travelled with my best friend and we tried Couchsurfing for the first time. Fran has travelled within Argentina and Brazil and is now eagre to get away to not get trapped in the big norm of work and then having a family and eventually die. So we have found traveling as a kind of way to be together. We dream big... on a small budget.
BUT the real reason we are on Couchsurfing is because it's the best way of traveling!!!! Like I said, I hate being a tourist. We want to dig deep into the culture and compare and discuss or just sit on the floor and giggle or whatever. We want to learn weird things and hear your stories and we want to know about your country and what's good and bad. That's why we couchsurf. Living in a hostel doesn't give you the same feeling of actually exploring.

Interests

I could make this list sooo long because when I travel I'm in this state where I just love to do anything. I don't like dubstep but bring me to a dubstep party and I swear I will dance. Take me to your origami club and I will make that swan. I think you can like or dislike anything all depending on your attitude! But these are my (our) very special interests that lie closest to our hearts.

Music, Movies, and Books

EVERYTHING from african folk music to movie soundtracks, classic, Paolo Nutini, blues... Fran is crazy about his argentinean rock of coure (like any argentinean) and Bob Marley.
When it comes to movies I like anything that makes me cry (not just a cheesy romantic comedy, but more like a "based on a true story" drama with some interesting hooks and facts). For example Beasts of no nation. But my all time favorite is Shrek. I also love anything that has history in it! If the women have long skirts and big hats, I'm sold. Fran is an action guy, he likes the car chases and the guns, but also a good story. I think he has seen pretty much every movie in the world.
Books!! I love books. Anything with some perspective on society, politics and global issues. Khaled Hosseini, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Jonathan Sofran Foer, myself (: Fran doesn't love books but I make him read some and that's pretty much the end of the story.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

If I only can pick one thing then I pick choosing not to study after high school and travel instead. I'm really happy for that decision. Not that I believe everyone should do that, although I kind of do believe that, but because it takes me so far. I'll try not to be cheesy when I say this but I learn things every day and get so much self esteem in doing all these things I never thought I'd do. I once decided to climb the Villarica vulcano in Chile for example, and felt sick about it the whole night before I was about to do it. I hated myself for that decision. But then I did it and it was horrible, and I got to the top and I have never felt so full of life and strong in my entire life. And that's what traveling brings me.
Fran didn't do that and he regrets it, but he's happy to have started now and on his list of amazing things is riding in a hot air balloon over Stockholm.

Teach, Learn, Share

We want to learn about countries - politics, problems, culture, the best and the worst. We want to practice languages, Fran his english and I french. We want to learn anything you can teach us, from cooking dumplings to making bracelets and sail a sail boat. And we can teach you how to cook vegan and vegetarian - or other food if that's what you're in to -, practice your spanish, english or swedish (if there is anyone out there trying to learn swedish...)

What I Can Share with Hosts

We are the best cooking team and happy to invite. We make our own pasta, bread, REALLY GOOD white brownies, zuccini raviolis... Anything!! And also whatever kind of food you want to try from Sweden or Argentina. We can share moments and chats over a beer (or 20), watch soccer games and simply share ourselves :)
