********** Dear couch surfing cumminity **********
I used to be an active member. hosting and surfing at 100+ members, hosting more than surfing. It was an amazing opportunity. For a while I was not able to host and I am a bit disappointed with the website, and the people who use it.
Now I can host again. but I want to keep the idea sustainable - for this reason please only write if you can host me, or a friend of mine or other couchsurfers in the future (or if you did your part in the past)
I work a lot, what means almost 9-22 every day I stay at my hostel reception. so come if you can occupy yourself but open to have a drink or see a concert at night.
I am happy to help with free accommodation, if you are student or coming from a poorer country, but if you are a tourist you are better to find some cheap hostel for 7-10€ per night, Budapest is cheap and you won't save too much, but you have to use public transport tickets to get my place so it would cost almost the same:)
I want to travel to Central and South America in the future so would be happy to get some friends from there!
I would be happy to host someone from Canary Island too:)
travelling around my mind
According to the Encyclopedia here is my definiton:
#daniel.varga: Happy Hungarian travel monkey (LAETUS HUNGARICUS) also called the Jumping Paprikamonkey, regarded as a subspecies of the Bananas Palinkas (Platanos Alcoholicos) until 1993, when it was first classified separately. Daniel can be found mainly in cheap bars around Central and South Europe as well as in rivers and caves, sometimes in rural territories, also along the motorways. Closely resembling the chimpanzee in both physical appearance and mode of life, the Hungarian Paprikamonkey is more slender, with longer limbs, a narrower chest, and a rounder head with a continously smiling face. Sleeping in tents, on couches, under the table or any vehicles. Real Hungarian with weird customs, brushing teeth with Goulash cream and can be recognized by his awkward dance movements and flying.
Autobiography: Mr. Daniel was born in Budapest, Hungary, papa mama two brothers three sisters, big house, blue bicylcle, fresh diapers every Tuesday, church on Sunday, football every day. Schools after schools and somehow in a wrong moment I chose to study something bizarre, listen carefully: finance and accountancy.
I tried to be a filmstar or at least a pope or just an average person but did not managed. But the game is not over.
Finally I finished my university, I become a serious economist, then I worked as a project manager dealing with European Union research programmes, what was very cool but then I moved to France where I work in a restaurant.
A few years ago I went to hitchhike around Europe, had incredible fun, visited friends, met new ones, drunk everything, jumped into rivers, kicked pigeons, brushed my teeth every day properly paying extra attention to the gumline, hard-to-reach back teeth and areas around fillings.
I used to have a dream to open a hostel and spend my days with travellers- finally soon I will start my Amazing Hostel, and the rest of my time I still can host some hitchhikers, world travellers:)
That is a top secret thing I only told my mother once. You have to ask her.

Music, Movies, and Books
One of the biggest wonder of this page that we have an opportunity to share cultural interests!
Music is so important in my life...
Manu Chao is my favourite ever, Bloc Party, Cocorosie, Dub Incorporation, Asian Dub Foundation, Jamie T, The XX, Damien Saez, Noir Desir, Arctic Monkeys, Royksopp, Kistehén, Pannonia Allstars Ska Orchestra from Hungary.. ska, early reggae, indie, electronic, gypsypunk, balkan music, blabla check it (its a bit old): http://www.last.fm/user/danikkk/
Movies: Lars von trier, Innaritu, Jeunet, Gondry, Kusturica
Dogville, Underground, La Haine, Night on Earth, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, La Science des reves, Requiem for a Dream, Donnie Darko, Azuloscurocasinegro , Shaun of the Dead, Das Leben der Anderen..
I love non-english movies, French, Brazilan, Iranian, Scandinavian, etc.!
Here are some other recommendation:
Ajami(Palestine-Israeli), Eastern Plays (Bulgarian), Carandiru(BR), Gordos(ES), Adam's apples(Danish)
I believe the best movie ever is "Ötödik pecsét" The Fifth Seal (1976) by Zoltán Fárbi
If you are interested in Hungarian film culture, I am happy to help you out. Recent talents are György Pálfi(Taxidermia, Final Cut (watch it, amazing!!!), Hukkle), Nimrod Antal(Kontroll), Benedek Fliegauf (Rengeteg), Zsombor Dyga, Kornél Mundruczó
The biggest "genius" is Béla Tarr (Sátántangó,Wreckmeister harmonies) thought it is a bit hard to comprehend. The only oscar-winner was Mephisto by István Szabó, and "Sunshine" from him is also recommended!
i love films indeed!!
Books: SÁNDOR MÁRAI, Angela Ashes from Frank McCourt, Émil Ajar: La vie devant Soi, Gabriel Garcia MArquez, Mario Vargas Llosa, Orwell, Boris Vian.
Poetry is a bit forgotten nowadays, but I am so lucky to be raised amongst the heritage of Márai, Radnóti, Pilinszky, József Attila, Ady, Kosztolányi, Babits, Költsey..etc
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Now I can say that i hitchhiked in Europe for 5 weeks, around 8000 km and met Santa Claus in Finland who is a douchebag anyway
And I had a nice time swimming in the Sea in Brighton at new years eve. Actually I swum almost every capital city's river in Europe (yes they are dirty, especially in Amsterdam)
I crossed the Atlantic with a sailing boat we hitchhiked. (And I was seasick like hell)
I ate the bride's bucket on a wedding.
I managed to watch Titanic without crying.
Hitchhiked in Mexico for two months!
Supported Vitoria Guimaraes in Portugal!
Once I cooked a gaspacho:D
Became friends with Polish ticket inspectors without having a ticket, bribing them by a chewing gum! (thanks to hungarian movie "Kontrol")
It seems one of my dream just fulfilled: I started my own hostel in Budapest, 2014 december!
