About Me

Hi, I’m Varvara — originally from Altai, Siberia, and now living in Hanover, New Hampshire, with my husband Chris and our daughter (a true mermaid 🧜‍♀️ — she’s in high school and loves the water). I’m Kumandin, an Indigenous woman, and much of my life is about bridging cultures. One way I do that is through food: I make and sell traditional Siberian dumplings, which have become a little taste of home that I share here in the U.S.

Professionally, I’ve spent years building partnerships in Indigenous rights, sustainability, and Arctic research. Personally, I love connecting with people through meaningful conversations, good meals, and the simple joy of shared experience. I’m curious, reliable, and open-minded — qualities I bring whether I’m hosting or surfing.

As a host: you’ll find a welcoming, comfortable home, a bit of warmth in the kitchen, and space to rest and recharge. We’re a busy family, so while I may not spend all my time with guests, I’ll make sure you feel cared for and at ease.
As a surfer: I’m respectful of people’s homes, routines, and boundaries, and I bring stories, food, and a genuine interest in learning from others.

Couchsurfing, for me, is about kinship across borders — finding community in unexpected places, even if just for a night or two.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Travel is my passion:) I like to make new friends and make new connections. Travel is a little life and if you find a right local person you can spend this time so much better than if you are traveling by your self. Also I like to share my ideas, thoughts, world with other people and make my place better for them.

I’ve got extremely lovely experience with a host in Japan and extremely bad experience in NYC. I don’t hide anything about my staying good or bad. If you re worried about negative references, you could check their profiles and their references.
My husband and I also love to host folks. We have an extra bedroom. Ready to offer private room with a full size sleeper or living room with a queen size sleeper.

Also we are flexible if you don’t have time to hang out that’s fine. We respect personal borders and our and your time as well. As guests we follow hosts rules and as hosts ask same.
