About Me

Hi!! I'm Vasco, a 19 year old with an open mind and varied interests who is trying to live his best life :)

Presently, I'm studying Biomedical Engineering with the hopes of becoming a scientific investigator on neuroscience. College has been a whole different experience! I've just finished year 2, but it has definitely brought a lot of new things into my life. Prior to college I've also studied music and played violet for a couple years.

I've played lots of sports and I like to keep myself active and healthy. I also find the human body fascinating: it is a complex, adaptable, functional and remarkably beautiful work of art!

I love to travel to new places and discover new cultures, but I also really enjoy meeting new people (even tho I'm not the most extroverted person ahah). Everyone's a different book with different chapters and different things to learn!

I also like to dwell on the little particularities of life, especially time. I have an insatiable hunger to live and I never want to let my inner child die! “All grown-ups were once children... but only few of them remember it.” - Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, The Little Prince.

Currently I'm on a mini pursuit of myself, I want to expand horizons hence this trip.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Last summer, while interrailing Europe with some friends, we were looking for cheap accommodation options (we're still at uni, the money is scarce ahah) and found out about CS - I had never heard of the concept, but I loved it! Unfortunately we were 4. It wasn't the easiest task so eventually we just stayed at airbnb's and hostels.

Nonetheless, the idea of CS lingered in the back of my head so here am I. I've traveled alone before, but I don't think I ever had a proper solo travelling experience and what better way to do so than to stay at unmet friend's house?! At first I may be a bit shy, but when comfortable I really enjoy getting to know people better and to be honest I'm eager to meet new people!

If we get the chance to meet one day, I hope to be a nice company and that we mutually learn from each other and have a good time!

(At the moment, I live with my parents so I don't think I can host back, but when I get my own place I'd like to try hosting!)

Music, Movies, and Books

Musically my taste varies A LOT, but I reserve a special place for the 70's, 80's and 90's classics - Elton John, Queen, Bon Jovi, Rolling Stones, Guns, Bee Gees, The Doors, The Police... the list goes on... Besides the classics it's a bit all over the place - Benjamin Clementine, Cage The Elephant, Mac DeMarco, FKJ, typical portuguese music, bossa nova, techno on some nights out, a bit of indie and even classical music.

I'm not the biggest reader, but I like to dip my toes on Fernando Pessoa's work of art, life experience books (Mark Manson, for example), The Little Prince and Daytripper are also favorites and currently I'm reading Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown.

My favorite movie might just be Ratatouille (and Amélie).
