About Me

Trying to figure out how to go back to live in Tanzania...and still be able to chip away at student loans.

I have a BA in music from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, I've played sax since I was 9. I've worked on a local farm since I was 17; I got TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certified in June 2011 and taught English from July-December. Then I went to Tanzania for half a year and taught music at a centre for street children. I spent a lot of time in the White Mountains in New Hampshire last summer and have fallen in love with the Crawford Notch area. I'm hoping to keep going up there now that I'm back stateside. Maybe I'll be getting an apartment in the Boston-ish area soon, we'll see.

I think volunteering is extremely important and can change the lives of everyone involved. Even if you don't have spare time or money, you can donate blood, and I donated nearly a foot of hair to Locks for Love.

Music, Movies & Books

Ray Lamontagne & Bob Marley are at the top of my list at the moment (I know, weird mix), of course there's tons of music I like. I also listen to a lot of Bongo Flava (Tanzania pop)...

A CSer introduced me to the awesomeness of Into the Wild, also like Dead Poets Society, Finding Neverland, Blazing Saddles, and tons more!

I read a lot of Dickens, also been enjoying Nathaniel Philbrick (Over the Edge of the World, Essex, Mayflower), I read non-fiction for the most part.

One Amazing Thing I've Done

Volunteered in Africa for half a year, went on safari and saw everything, swam in the Indian ocean, saw Victoria falls, and pet lions and cheetahs.

Lived in London for nine months.

Climbed Mount Washington in the snow with my dog.

Performed with a chorus in front of 2,000 people at the Barbican (one of the largest venues) in London.

Backpacked through Europe for three weeks and stayed with Couchsurfers the whole way.

Traveled through Italy for a week with my sister.

Teach, Learn, Share

I don't know why these are all Mark Twain quotes... oh yea because he's the man...

Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.

The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who can't read them.

Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of fear.

If you tell the truth you don't have to remember anything.

The heart is the real Fountain of Youth.
