About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Life has so much to offer and making "plans" doesn't always beat living in the moment.

ABOUT ME

I was born in Michigan as a child to an artistically inclined mother and a father who worked hard in a precision machine shop. He is respected for his craft, though worked too hard and too many hours. Eventually my parents divorced.

I loved to draw as a child, but as I got older I enjoyed the process less and less. I could go into "why" this was, but that's another story entirely.

School was finished and it was time for me to decide what to do with my life. After much hesitation (and cleaning many toilets) I accepted my first office job. I stayed in the office for about 7 years, eventually working my way up to a "Enterprise Systems Administrator/Developer". What does that mean? Computers.

Eventually my visually artistic side suffered enough to where it drove me to risk everything. I gave up my big toys, my car, my house. I worked hard, and alone, for years... to obtain my dream and get into the 3D animation business. My head head was starving for something visually creative.

My animation demo reel ended up in the hands of a company in Vancouver, Canada and I was hired on my first feature film.

I always preached that if there was something in life that you wanted bad enough, you just had to work hard and eventually you would obtain it. I'm glad I eventually decided to take my own advice.

There's more to say, but I guess I can summarize by saying that I'm shy, yet once I get comfortable, I have to keep myself in check and not talk to much. At least I'm aware... ya know?

PHILOSOPHY

I'm very open minded and am very interested in meeting new people or experiencing... well... anything! We cannot grow without change. If we complain when things do not go the way we expected, we will miss the opportunity to take advantage of this change. I love my career and work hard at doing the best I can do, while also taking the time to help those around me... both professionally and personally. Unfortunately, this passion for my work has lately been getting in the way of my personal life.

It's time to re-balance.

I'll have to clean this philosophy statement sometime in the future. Meet me up for a drink and I could tell you ALL about it. Communication is most effective when eye to eye.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm new here and feeling things out. It was recommended to me by a friend, who was staying with me for a little while.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Zero. In Michigan I didn't meet a lot of travelers. Obviously this has changed significantly since arriving in Vancouver.

Interests

3D animation, music, health education, alternative medicines (saved my life), learning new cultures.

Music, Movies, and Books

Baraka, BBC nature documentaries, nearly anything that's animated and has heart. I love creatures, natural or twisted.

My book library is huge and I have books that range from Michael Crichton, 3D animation, health, Buddhism, Taoism, Alexander Technique... and ART!! Lots of books containing artists sketches and digital art.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The ocean. Something I'm still learning to respect.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm in 3D animation because no matter what happens with film or games, I believe this medium is the key to making this world a better place. There is no communication that is more powerful than the visual.

If only this existed when I was in school.
