About Me

CURRENTLY

I'm traveling with Nils (https://www.couchsurfing.com/users/2008252519) and will be looking to meet or stay with people on our travels. Nils and I met in Oslo, Norway during 2017 and immediately knew we'd be adventuring together for some time. So we found ourselves traveling every few months and now we're here in Japan!

We will be traveling through Japan between July 26 to Aug 13 starting in Tokyo and mostly between there and Kyoto. So we're stoked to meet some people in the areas - locals who want to show us around or locals who can offer us a place to stay for one or a few nights. We're especially eager to soak in nuances of Japanese culture and language. We would love getting advice on alternative ways of experiencing Japenese cities and especially Japan's nature.

CURRENT MISSION

For now, just finish my education while getting my friends to seek a bit more adventure with me. Watching how people experience new places motivates me to keep taking others on travels.

ABOUT ME

Hey, couchsurfers! From just browsing through places, it seems like the community here is welcoming. Looking forward to building relationships with other travelers and hosts on here!

I'm doing research as a PhD student in the desert and studying math and neuroscience.
I love the story science tells. I've been described as kinetic by some. My hobbies vary between martial arts, running, dancing, cycling, hiking, reading, and programming. I'd like to pick up more outdoor adventure sports.

I had only left my home state of Florida once in 22 years for a 2 week period. Since then, I've learned to love the road and the passing miles behind me. After grad school, I'm thinking about possibly sailing an ocean passage, backpacking eastern Asia or being a live-in martial arts student in Japan.

I'm a good mix of serious and lighthearted. I'm easy to talk to about any topic. Fresh air and conversation have always been the perfect therapy for me. I like to stop and listen to the world in seemingly mundane moments.

I try to appreciate all that comes through my life. Events, moments, people, opportunities, fortune and misfortune. "Act as if the Universe depended on what you did, while laughing at yourself for thinking whatever you do makes a difference."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Looking to start hosting when I get a place of my own. So for now, I'd like to take people around Arizona, US whenever possible or show people the Phoenix area. Let me know!

MY COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My first traveling experience with strangers was a midnight hike up the highest peak in Arizona to watch the sunrise with a group of strangers. It reminded me of how much you connect to people if you stop to appreciate what's around you. Couchsurfing seems like one of those communities that foster this.

Ultimately, I want to help other travelers experience their ideal traveling experience whenever I can. I've had a little CS experience, but that'll come with time.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach/Share: I always travel with my slackline. If you don't know what that is, take a look at this YouTube video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2m5N2JRp1_k

I haven't done any cliff lining, but enjoy teaching people on my university campus often. I'm an excellent coach and like to motivate people to be better than I was the first time I tried out the line.

Learn: I'm a hobbyist so teach me anything and I'm happy.
