Festival photographer who's been living in Canada for the last year and 9 months, about to do some more random missions and then head home to finish my science degree (if I can hold still for that long..).

In 2011, my friends and I happened to randomly arrive at the impressive Batu Caves in Malaysia on one of the three days of Thaipusam, one of the biggest Hindu festivals in Malaysia, where devotees undertake a pilgrimage while carrying various burdens, which can include hooks or other piercings through the flesh. Over 2 million people visited the Batu Caves in 2011, and being witness to this was like nothing I have ever imagined.
