About Me

I'm an east-coaster currently living in Portland, Oregon. Earlier this year I had an amazing meditative experience during which I had an epiphany: that I live my life in the way some of us used to read those Choose Your Own Adventure books; with my fingers in all the pages so I could play out all the possibilities. I'm super-close to my family which makes it hard to be out here sometimes, but I'm stoked on where life is right now and am having fun exploring the pacific northwest.

I am a thinker and a dreamer and love to learn from others. Interacting with people is my life force, I suppose, though I do love reclusive spurts at times. One of the best things about Portland is the people I've met. The collective energy of the people in this city is creative and warm and encouraging and accepting, and I feel at home here.

I'm a marketer by trade, a writer at heart, and above all else, an adventurer, whether that's by living vicariously through a character in a book I've dove into or forging my own experiences.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I live across the US from my family so most of my vacation time is spent visiting them, and the only time I've gotten to travel recent years is through work. This Spring I'm finally seizing an opportunity to head to Eastern Europe for two+ weeks to visit some places my family is from, to explore, meet new people and see where it takes me.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: Tom Robbins, Vonnegut, Coupland, Poe, Neitzsche, Eggers, Bukowski, Silverstein, Whitman, Ellis, Dickinson. King's Dark Tower Series. Dystopic novels from Brave New World, a fave, to Murakami. I'll pretty much read anything post-apocalyptic, even all the YA titles, yep. I'm also obsessed with the poetic way Brian Cox writes and am slowly devouring his Wonders of the Universe. The soundtrack is also really moving.

Flicks: Wes Anderson stuff, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Shining, Requiem for a Dream, Vanilla Sky, Shaun of the Dead, Pee Wee's Big Adventure, Dead Poet's Society, the Matrix, Goonies.

Recent listens: Sunny Day Real Estate (perpetually), The Knife, Alt-J, Radiohead, Phantogram, Explosions in the Sky, Sleigh Bells, Blood Orange, Beastie Boys, Metallica, Slowdive, Miles, The Beatles, Z-Trip, Circa Survive, Girl Talk, The xx, The Black Angels, Best Coast, Cursive, M83, MGMT, RJD2, Nirvana, Band of Horses, Portugal the Man, Danny Brown...
