About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Eat, pray, love

ABOUT ME

I'm indecisive, although I prefer to think of it as just thoughtful, kind of a perfectionist (not quite on the Monica-from-Friends level though, don't worry) and I guess just very very curious about the world and how it turns. I'm one of these people that can sit in a cafe and just watch people for hours, and get lost in my own thoughts. I have quite a dry sense of humour, I like to laugh and see the funny sides of life, and try to see the positives in everything. I'm generally a pretty adaptable person and can get on with just about anybody.

Random thing: I'm not sure why, but wherever I am in the world, people always always ask me directions. It's almost guaranteed when I go to a new city, somebody will ask me, where does this bus go? Which subway line goes to 34th st? Where is the nearest Catholic church? (that actually happened today) Sometimes, I have to ask them to repeat it in English. And I feel bad if I don't know the answer.

PHILOSOPHY

Love your neighbour as yourself - all the rest is commentary

Why I'm on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've been a member of CS for a long time now, and have opened my couch up to surfers in all the places I've lived in the last few years. It's been a lot of fun. I've also surfed a few times, and joined the local community for fun trips out and about. It's been great.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Hosting, surfing, meeting people for coffee and cake, giving away unwanted furniture, and everything in-between.

Interests

Travelling (clearly), cooking, yoga, reading, swimming, eating nutella straight from the jar, taking photos, random walks, music, theatre, sushi, trying new things (even if I end up not liking them) anything and everything really....

Obviously, my main interest is travelling, so I quite like discussing different experiences with people. I love getting used to new currency and learning snippets of new languages. I really enjoy cooking at home, but I'm also a big fan of eating out. I love to pick up new recipes while I'm abroad or get a bit of inspiration. I absolutely love sushi and could probably eat it for every meal (that rubbish you get in supermarkets not included) and healthy eating and home cooking is a big part of my life - as is pushing myself off the sofa and into some kind of exercise, mostly yoga and running, lately.

I'm a total news junkie, and keeping up with whats going on in the world is a big deal to me. I have usually have lots of opinions on it all as well. My interest in politics borders geeky. But I can hold a conversation about the weather as well, if need be.

I'm interested in spirituality and religion, in a "there has to be more than this 9-5 existance" sort of way, and like those endless convesations about where it all started and what the point really is anyway. Either way, peoples beliefs, or lack thereof, kind of fascinate me. I have my own ideas, but quite like hearing other people's opinions too.

Music, Movies & Books

I like to watch a lot of movies of any genre. I really liked Fantastic Mr Fox, Up in the Air, The Hangover (it's not a typical 'me' movie but it makes me laugh out loud!) Black Swan, Fight Club, Sherlock Holmes (the Guy Ritchie version), 500 Days of Summer, Working Girl.

Music tastes vary completely - I was a bit of a goth as a teenager, but grew out of it (like I said I never would) and mostly just listen to the radio these days. I quite like The Killers, Madonna, Jimmy Eat World, The Distillers, Death Cab for Cutie, Muse.. I mostly just pick up on random songs rather than listen to whole albums.

My favourite book is probably "The Time Traveller's Wife" by Audrey Niffenegger. Just amazing. Also really liked "Eat, Pray, Love". I liked the Twilight books a lot but resent how everything in popular culture now has to be vampire related as a result. I'm a big reader of any old fiction that I can get lost in. I love my local library.

One Amazing Thing I've Done

Well, I've never jumped out of an aeroplane or been white water rafting, but that's not really my kind of fun anyways. I try to find the amazing things in every part of life and appreciate them for what they are.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm an expert on random trivia - I always seem to know the answer to those questions like "Why do you never see baby pigeons?" and where things like "bless you" when someone sneezes comes from. If you can tell me why the Financial Times is printed on pink paper, please let me know!
