About Me

CURRENT MISSION

ABOUT ME

I live and love in big-city-Brattleboro, Vermont where my red-bearded Vermonter and I spend endless hours in the garden and the kitchen. I teach little ones about farms and food, and have a heck of a good time doing it! Education is my passion, which is lucky for me since learning is everywhere (and not necessarily in schools).

I had to see a bit of the world before finding my landing spot in Vermont. My parents are Spanish and Syrian, so the langauge and travel bug were in me from the very beginning.

PHILOSOPHY

"If you have come here to help me, you are wasting your time. But if you have come because your liberation is bound up with mine, then let us work together." -Lilla Watson

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have a couch and I'd love to stay on yours someday! Thanks, good couchsurfers of the world.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I first surfed when I came to visit my (now) hometown of Brattleboro, Vermont. What a lovely hostess I had!

Interests

I am crazy about the world and the people in it. I love languages and cultures and mountains and rivers and hiking and climbing and rhyming and music and kids and farms and food and gardening and learning and yearning for more and education for free and reading and writing and cooking and baking.

I like wine and bourbon, too. Oh-- and chocolate!

Music, Movies, and Books

so many musical geniuses. music. oh music.

When I find myself alone in the house, I like to play classical music or Andrea Bocelli very loud on the speakers. That's when I break out my fancy made-up ballet moves and practice my lip-sync.

As far as reading goes, I like everything I've read of Paulo Coehlo and Wally Lamb for fiction. Writers on education that I enjoy and respect: Paulo Friere, John Holt, and John Taylor Gatto.

Movies? So many!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Safari in the Massai Mara. Machu Picchu in Peru. Palmyra (unburied city) in the Syrian Oasis. John the Baptist's tomb in Damascus. Le Mont Blanc. Climbing in the Swiss and Austrian Alps. Hiking until sundown in Chambery, France and camping at the top of the mountain. Oktoberfest in Munich.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'd like to learn: arabic, sign language, how to sew & knit, and anything else that's learn-able.
