About Me

Hi, I'm Vic. I grew up in a historic walled City in the UK. I have a great passion for social history and an unquenchable thirst for travel and exploration. Since I graduated in 2011, my parter and I have been travelling as much as we could. In 2014 we signed up to a Canadian working holiday program and have managed to perpetually travel ever since thanks to a site called workaway, the kindness of strangers and part time jobs we have picked up along the way. We are currently living in the Wilderness of the Bella Coola Valley and have loved learning about wildlife conservation and rainforest ecology.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love meeting new people, learning new things and gaining different perspectives on life.
My passion for travelling started me out on this journey but it has been the amazing, and even the not so amazing, people we have met along the way that has kept us yearning for more.
Haters of routine, we are always looking for the next adventure or challenge. We have seen a lot of the world but there is always so much more to see.
We are here to make new friends, learn as much as we can and perpetuate this amazing lifestyle we have created for ourselves over this past year.

Interests

As well as my love of history and travel, I play a lot of instruments (not well but I enjoy it) and love nothing better than impromptu music jams with new friends, live music and learning about different music around the world.
I also love reading, writing and researching.
I have a travel blog and love dabbling in photography, including underwater photography as both Alex and I are qualified Scuba Divers.
Animals and wildlife play a huge part in both mine and Alex's life, we worked at a pet resort and have loved learning as much as we can about Grizzly Bear protection and conservation in the Great Bear Rainforest.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Folk, Rock, Metal, Classical
Movies: Blazing Saddles, Airplane, most Adam Sandler films, Monty Python films and silly comedies. I also love watching low budget. terrible horror films.
Books: The picture of Dorian Grey and Oscar Wilde poetry and essays, Eat Pray Love, most travel books and most things written before 1900. The dark half and most Stephen King novels and short stories.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Having the courage to sell most of my possessions, house and car and travel the world with the love of my life, despite the doubts of family and friends. Carving out a life that is right for us and not caving in to social pressures to keep working in an office.

Teach, Learn, Share

Alex is a qualified music teacher and I play a few instruments. If anyone is looking for a jam/music lessons, we will be happy to share music with you.
While we aren't travelling with all of our instruments, between us we can play the following:
Drum kit and percussion,
Flute,
Cello,
Guitar,
Bass Guitar,
Saxophone,
Piano,
Vocals.
We are currently learning Spanish and would love to learn more. I speak intermediate/conversational German and would be happy to teach someone the basics.
We are always looking to learn new things, no matter how obscure.

What I Can Share with Hosts

We are a really laid back, open and well travelled couple. We love sharing as much as we can with hosts, and are very tidy people. Alex is great with maintenance, and can turn his hand to almost anything, whatever needs doing we will be happy to help.
We are experienced in animal care, from dogs and cats to snakes and spiders, love to garden and have experience in social media marketing and hospitality management.
We have also had 4 years worth of budget travel experience and often book flights and put together travel itineraries for friends, family and previous hosts so will be happy to share travel tips if needed.
