Interests

Leisure without learning is death. I like sailing, reading books for pleasure in three languages, swimming, body boarding at sunset, jogging and walking on the beach early in the morning as well as after sunset, cycling, skiing, hiking and enjoying home grown and homemade food.

“War and Peace” by Leo Tolstoy, Seneca’s “The Epistulae Morales ad Lucilium”, The Harry Porter novel series, Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice”, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s “Le Petit Prince”, everything written by Alexandre Dumas, Ernest Hemingway as well as almost everything of John Steinbeck and Roald Dahl.

I enjoy the cinema of the Soviet Union. Some of my favorite American and British movies are “Nottingham Hill”, “Top Gun” , “ Oceans Eleven” , Pretty Woman”, etc.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Became an open water diver on the island of Bonaire and sailed for four weeks in the Caribbean on a 56 ft cat and did some real sailing (without an auto pilot and a GPS on) on a 40+ meter sail boat. Had unique scuba experiences on Saba Island and Bonaire. Hiked solo on Catalina Island and encountered bison herds in the wild. Went on treks in the Caucasus Mountains, Carpathian Mountains, and on the Crimea Peninsular. Hiked and did water rafting in Yosemite. Welcomed a homeless person at my home for 3 months. Steered a 40+ meter sail boat without a GPS for 3.5 hours in the open sea.
