About Me

Hi guys !

I'm Victoria, I'm 20, and I've been living in Lyon for 4 years now. I'm a graduate student in political science and I specialized in East-Asian studies, mainly Japanese studies.

I've got a small apartment here with a nice couch for guests to sleep on. Also, depending on when you're coming, I can show you some nice places in this city that I love.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've loved travelling since my parents took me and my sisters on many trips when we were younger, and I've always had the chance to share great experiences with locals and other travelers. Also, we used to host musicians and comedians at my parents' house for local festivals or concerts, and I want to host people of all backgrounds and nationalities.

As a young student in this millennium, I know how hard it can be to fulfill your dreams when it comes to travelling and not being able to afford a hotel every night. If I could help people on a budget getting to know my city and French culture, I would be more than happy. Let's share our experiences and culture !

Interests

I am a big fan of music. I have played the piano for twelve years or so and the keyboards in two bands, and if you ever have a guitar or anything in your bags I would be really happy to go on a jam session !

As a PolSci student I always like getting to know one's country's political culture, and trying to give people a glimpse of the French political life. I'm quite a left-wing idealist myself, but honestly I don't think that having opinions is an obstacle to interesting and enlightening discussions. Also, my boyfriend, who's here at home most of the time, is a philosophy student, so you won't be immune to hours-long conversations !

I've been living in Japan for a year in 2015-2016, and this was the most rewarding experience of my life. I'm going back there for a semester next year. If you love Japanese culture (however I must mention I'm not really fond of the "otaku" culture), food, history or whatever, let's meet and share !

Music, Movies, and Books

My favourite music genres are jazz, stoner rock, indie rock, and a lot of 70s - 90s songs my dad used to make me listen to. If you're not afraid to hear some Abba while washing the dishes, you're more than welcome in my home.

I would say my favorite movies directors are Wes Anderson, Kon Satoshi, Denis Villeneuve, and Miyazaki Hayao. I love poetic movies a lot.

I don't quite have the time to read fictions these days as I'm working on my masters thesis, but I love Natsume Soseki's works, and also science fiction.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I guess taking a train for 12 hours to travel on 200 kilometers in Burma was quite "the" experience I can talk about for years. I went there with two of my best friends, and this was the most alien place I've been to.

Teach, Learn, Share

Of course I can teach you some French, and also a bit of Japanese. I would love to get to know at least a few words in your language too !

I'm trying to reduce my consumption of animal-based food as much as possible, but I don't know a lot about tofu or anything yet, so if you know about vegan food, please share your knowledge with me !

Also, if you'd like to teach me how to play the guitar, bass guitar, or even the triangle, I would totally love it.

What I Can Share with Hosts

A nice couch to sleep on,
A good breakfast before you visit Lyon and the surrounding places,
A warm shower when you come back from your day,
Food if you want to,
Plenty of tea.

Depending on whether I've got things to do or not, I might go with you to visit some interesting places (in Lyon, or in the Alps). Also, I can give tips on places to go and things to do in France and in Japan !

Countries I’ve Visited
