ABOUT ME

I've lived in Portland since 2006; I moved here from Chicago. I live with my girlfriend Fiona - we are both very well travelled, and love connecting with people from other cultures.

I'm a musician. I have a band and solo projects. I work in a restaurant for a paycheck.

Fiona is in her first year at medical school.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

In 2010, I was traveling by myself through Sweden, Hungary, England and Ireland. I used couchsurfing.org extensively, and could not have survived without it. I had some amazing experiences, and told myself that whenever I found myself in a stable living situation with appropriate sleeping areas for guests, then I would return the favor and make myself available to host others.

Now is that time.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

The best couchsurfing experiences I had were with people who were trusting and also willing to spend time with me, both showing me around their city and just hanging out at their homes. I was able to make some great personal connections - I met my friend Evelina when I couchsurfed with her in Sweden and since then, I have been able to host her here in Portland.
I hope to be able to provide the kind of experiences that I had when I was traveling.

Books: Candide, Crime & Punishment, Q, Cloud Atlas, anything by Graham Greene. Historical fiction is also pretty great, as is non-fiction, but I read a lot of all sorts - definitely a favorite thing to do.

Movies (Nerd Warning): Black Narcissus, Sitting Target, The Fallen Idol, The Devils, Gummo, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Dawn of the Dead ('78). My film tastes range widely - I love me some Chevy Chase with equal amounts Klaus Kinski, though my first love is horror, trashy or otherwise. Give me some Herzog or Svankmajer any day of the week.

TV: Deadwood, Six Feet Under, MST3K.

Music: I'm pretty sure there's some amazing music in every genre. Some favorites: The Cure, Roxy Music, The Knife, The Louvin Brothers, The Beach Boys, Hanne Hukkelberg, Prince, Kate Bush, Robyn Hitchcock, Crystal Castles, The Buzzcocks, Depeche Mode, Royksopp, Love, Nick Cave, Tobacco.
