I think I am a big fan of John Irving's books, especially Twisted River. I also like Bukowski. Regarding the French literature, I enjoy Joël Dicker, and some of the books from Sylvain Tesson really moved me.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

It is not really amazing, but I set up a bike workshop for homeless people in Lyon so that they could move around without having to pay the subway.
