My name is Viil and I am currently living in the Mayenne region of France. I grew up in Bergen in Norway and moved to Swansea in South Wales as a student where I ended up staying for 15 years after meeting my partner Andy. We decided to move to France about 7 years ago and together we play in the duo Stonecraft where I play guitar and sing.

I'm giving couchsurfers try after speaking to of friends who have done a lot of hosting and travelling through the site and have found it a very positive experience. I love meeting new people and find any traveling so much more rewarding with local knowledge and local people. I can also imagine it is a great way to finding other musicians I can learn from and share with wherever I am.

Musik, Filme und Bücher

I think there are too much music I love to mention it all here. I am into Celtic music, americana, folk/ rock, jazz and indi rock. Some of the artists I listen to at the moment are The Lumineers, Gillian Welch, Dropkick Murphies and Angelo Debarre.

I read a lot of books mainly fiction, crime fiction and history books. Author’s I really enjoy are Ian Banks, Ian Ranking, William Boyd, Peter May, Donna Tartt, Susan Hill, Jo Nesbø, Peter James, Gillian Flynn and Dylan Thomas.

I will go to the cinema whenever I have the chance which is not often enough at the moment. I prefer independent cinema particularly dramas. One of the best films I have seen lately are Whiplash.

Eine tolle Erfahrung, die ich gemacht habe

Played a festival on the edge of the Atlantic in Brittany – the weather was fantastic and we had a view of the sea from the stage. I also traveled on the Trans Siberian Railway to the UN Woman’s conference in Beijing in 1995.

I am happy to teach you some guitar chords, get to know you and share good food and drink. I love walking around cities late at night looking at buildings and learning about the culture and history of places.
