ABOUT ME

I'm really friendly and outgoing. I get excited about things and am dreadfully curious about everything around me. I'm passionate about the world around me and I enjoy a good conversation about anything, as long as its interesting and I can learn something from it.

I sometimes write silly stories because I just feel like it. It gets me out of the sciency day to day thought process that I'm always doing... I recently wrote a story about a mole whose tunnels get flooded through. Its a metaphor for something.. I'm not sure what yet.

I also get distracted.

PHILOSOPHY

I'm really good at not being bored. I'm always finding something to do, something to read, something to cook, something to watch etc. I am also good at keep a level head in life but still enjoying the small things around me. I'm also very good at falling down. My hand-eye coordination is really nothing to write home to mum about, this however does not prevent me from running around the bush doing outdoorsy stuff. I then promptly and quite comically fall.

Interests

I love nature and bushwalking, trekking, hiking and all other variants of being in the middle of nowhere with some beautiful scenery and a pack full of dried fruits and nuts. I also enjoy going out for a drink and meeting new people and learning new experiences.

Music, Movies, and Books

I have many favourite books and magazines, far too many to actually write about in this short blurb without boring you to death. Suffice to say that I really like fantasy (GoT, LoTR, Pullman's His Dark Materials, Stroud's Bartimaeus Trilogy, Wheel of Time), semi-historical fiction, autobiographies (Mandela, Tagore, Gandhi, King, LBJ), history/politics/economics books (British Empire and Colonies, Indian, European, weekly The Economist and lots of internet based stuff) popular science (Hawking, Dawkins, Sagan, weekly New Scientist and Scientific American) and the odd crime thriller thrown in.

I love watching movies and simply devour pretty much anything that comes on. Of course the old classics like The Godfather, Shawshank Redemption, Scarface, Pulp Fiction, Forrest Gump, Goodfellas etc would always be close to the top of any movie list I can come up with. Most things that Scorsese made, anything that has/had Al Pacino, Christopher Waltz some more recent stuff like Inception, Dark Knight. I give up, there's too many great movies/actors/directors.

I watch plenty of TV, pretty much anything made by HBO is on my list. I hold deeply the belief that "The Wire" is probably the greatest tv show ever made. Also comedy stuff, Australian stuff. Most ABC. I really like Masterchef as well (goes with the passion for cooking..)

I like blues, 60's rock, jazz, indie and most stuff on Triple J. With newer music my loyalties are more shifting I guess but with the classics a bit of Creedence Clearwater Revival, throw in a sprinkling of Jonny Cash and Louis Armstrong and a little shake of Sinatra and I'm sold.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

As I was in a plane flying over Central Australia I looked out the window and saw the Flinders Ranges. It was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen and some day I'm going to walk a nice big track through it.
