Overview
About Me
I am active and hosting in Szeged, Hungary, even if my profile shows a Serbian location - that's just for "tactical" reasons.
I was born in Serbia as a Hungarian, and I always felt like I don't really belong to either countries. When somebody asks me where I am from, I don't know what to answer. On the level of personal relations I'm closer to Hungary, but on community level, on mentality I feel closer to the Balkans. In sports I cheer for Serbia, even though I barely speak their language. I have a regional identity, and it's just a small area which I consider "my home country".
Traveling is literally my adrenaline. You can't imagine how lazy I am when sitting at home. But as soon as I'm on the road, everything changes, time flies at a different pace, there are new impressions at every corner and I can keep on going with almost never feeling really tired.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I'm an introvert who doesn't make friends easily, so it's great that I can skip the first and most difficult step and start it immediately with inviting someone in my flat or getting invited myself by a stranger! :P
Now I'm on a mission to visit all the countries in Europe - there are only 2 left on my list.
Interests
One thing I love to do in foreign countries is to look at people's face and try to establish how the men and women of that particular nation generally look like. I like crossing country borders by foot, I enjoy learning about symbols, festivals and culture of small nations.
Music, Movies, and Books
In movies I can take unlimited dose of psychothrillers and time-travelling. In TV series my all time favourite is the Breaking Bad universe, and I mostly watch dramas on that front.
Music: I am all about the melodies. I have favourite tracks in different genres: trance, '70s disco, bagpipes, raggae, country, classical, north korean communist songs, sami jojking and other unusual stuff. And with all this, my all time favourite band is Pet Shop Boys.
Books: The Book of Nothing (that's an actual book).
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
- After years of trying once a couch request I sent to France got accepted (but then the guy didn't leave a reference so I still have no proof).
- Visited the northernmost city of the world (up for debate by the neighbouring "city").
- During the corona restrictions in Europe, I crossed the border of 18 different countries and lived at least for a month in six of them, all without taking the vaccine, completing any PCR tests or spending a single day in quarantine (although it included a few hours of hiding in a toilet in Switzerland).
- And of course, as a journalist, being so close to the world of professional sports is an ongoing "amazingness". I had a chance to talk with world champion racing drivers like Kimi Räikkönen and Sébastien Loeb, tennis GoaT Novak Đoković and living handball legend Katrine Lunde.
Teach, Learn, Share
There's a chance that I know the melody of your country's national anthem. But if I don't, I'm willing to learn it, as this is a thing I do! :) My favourite moments on CS are when we sing their anthem together with my guest. So maybe we can do it with yours too!
