About Me

I'm a 26 year old native of the San Francisco Bay Area and have been living here all my life. I've been working in the tech industry for over three years since college and I'm at the point in my life where things are just too comfortable so I'm always looking for chances to travel. Whether it be out of state or out of the country I relish the opportunity for new sites and experiences and branching out of my comfort zone.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've had a good deal of friends recommend me to this site and have met a few people who had used it and all of them had nothing but good thing to say. I'm a new traveler going on my first backpacking trip through Europe. I'll be doing this trip solo so meeting people is definitely something on my mind. More so, when I travel I don't always like to end up at the typical tourist traps that everyone else flocks to. I love to get more immersed in the actual culture of the place I'm traveling to but that can be hard staying in hotels and hostels. So, all signs point to couchsurfing as a way to get a less touristy experience and meet some great locals.

Interests

I have quite a few interests so I'll just put them as a list:
Rock climbing
Hiking
Backpacking in the wilderness
Biking
Photography
Guitar/Bass
Video Games
Movies/TV Shows
Reading
Food
Beer/Wine

I know a lot of these things are pretty general but I can get really invested into any of them depending on my mindset at the time.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love all kinds of music especially rock and electronic music. At the moment I'm really into bands like Boards of Canada, Tame Impala, Bibio, Pavement, and El Ten Eleven.

I love most movies by Quentin Tarantino like Pulp Fiction and Inglorious Bastards. Besides that, The Departed, Fight Club, Dredd, The Raid, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, and Guardians of the Galaxy are all of there. While this list is all action movies I assure you I do enjoy Comedies and Daramas as well.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

There are a few things I could list here, but probably the freshest in my mind is s three day backpacking trip to Lake Vernon in Yosemite National Park with some friends. It was a fairly simple and straight forward trip in theory but none of us had done the hike before and so we were not prepared for some of the experiences. Our first day we hiked a good 9 miles in blistering heat only to discover that our first campsite was located across a bog. By the time we got to the campsite we had been devoured by mosquitoes and had gotten our socks soaked. The second day didn't start to well either since our first leg was a 3 mile switchback uphill. After that though we made good pace to finally reach Vernon Lake, a beautiful isolated alpine lake surround by mountains. We spent the rest of the day swimming, eating, and, at one point, chasing off a bear that got to curious with some other campers. That night we did away with our tents and slept out on the granite slabs. To our luck the moon didn't show up and our stargazing was breathtaking that night. The final day we hiked a total of 11 miles (thankfully all downhill) and celebrated with an awful (yet delicious) meal at Wendy's (fast food burgers and fries).

It was a trip filled with ups and downs, more of the unexpected than expected, plenty of hardships, and couple of things that few people will ever experience. In all, it was, in my opinion, amazing.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm not sure what I can offer to my host except my stories, my humor, my company and a welcome ear and open mind to anything they with to share with me. I can also bring wine, beer and food that much is quite easy.
