About Me

Hi there! My name is Virgie Hoban, I'm a rising senior at UC Berkeley in San Francisco, and a summer intern at the Boston Globe, working as a science reporter in Boston until September. This weekend, Aug. 8-9, me and my friend, Celina Vicuna, would like to take a trip to New York City, me for the first time. Celina just graduated from UC Berkeley, and is interning in Boston teaching programming to kids through the Museum of Science here in the city. We're just hoping to get a chance to see New York, and make some new friends along the way.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm just excited about the chance of entering someone's life for 24 hrs in a strange new city. I love love love meeting new people and catching new glimpses of the world. It's what makes me love being a journalist.

Also, my friend and I are poor college students who will otherwise sleep on the floor of Grand Central on Saturday night. Which can't be too bad... but still.

Interests

Journalism, theatre, reading, people. Dancing and singing -- terribly.

Music, Movies, and Books

Billy Joel, Indie/pop rock; Good Will Hunting, Forrest Gump, Roman Holiday; anything F. Scott Fitzgerald touched, Catch 22, The Giver

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Run around Boston for the summer, interview Hahvahd professors about the wicked cool shizz they're researching and tell the world about it.

Teach, Learn, Share

My friend and I can teach our host Spanish! And all we'd like to know is New York in any capacity, and any help or advice you could offer would fill our hearts with joy.

What I Can Share with Hosts

My tales as a journalist in Boston, incoherent summaries of my studies at Berkeley, stories about life back home in Florida (the people are indeed wacko), and plenty of laughs, and dance parties. :)

My friend is from Anaheim, California (OC), and will be living in Spain this coming year, teaching Spanish. She makes dank food, and can tell you beautiful things about Filipino culture, like how her family members' (and others) Christmas celebration includes getting drunk over a game of Bingo.

Countries I’ve Visited

Mexico
