About Me

Hi there! I'm Andre Vito, and I'm thrilled to be part of the Couchsurfing community again. I've couchsurfed a few times before, and I love the incredible connections and experiences it brings. Traveling is my passion, and I have a keen interest in studying social issues wherever I go. I enjoy engaging with locals to gain fascinating insights, discover hidden gems, and find the best spots to eat and connect with others. I've been fortunate to travel to many places around the world and have worked as a humanitarian worker, which has deepened my appreciation for diverse cultures and perspectives.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm passionate about connecting with people and learning from their life experiences. Couchsurfing offers a unique opportunity to create meaningful connections and gain insights that only locals can provide. Unfortunately, I can't travel as often as I'd like, so I make the most of exploring my local surroundings in Brasília. I’m excited to welcome travelers into my home, share what I've learned about my city, and help them discover its hidden treasures. Whether it’s through sharing stories, offering tips, or simply providing a comfortable place to stay, I look forward to being a part of your journey.

Music, Movies, and Books

I’m a huge fan of Brazilian culture, and I love sharing it with others. For music, I highly recommend diving into some classic Bossa Nova, especially the timeless melodies of Antônio Carlos Jobim and João Gilberto. Their music captures the essence of Brazil's vibrant yet laid-back spirit. When it comes to movies, Brazilian cinema has produced some remarkable films. "City of God" (Cidade de Deus) and "The Second Mother" (Que Horas Ela Volta?) are must-sees that have gained international acclaim for their compelling storytelling and social commentary. As for literature, you can’t go wrong with the classics. Machado de Assis, one of Brazil’s greatest writers, offers profound insights into Brazilian society with works like "Dom Casmurro" and "Memórias Póstumas de Brás Cubas". Exploring these facets of Brazilian culture will give you a deeper appreciation of this rich and diverse country.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've had the privilege of experiencing some incredible adventures around the world. I couchsurfed with a Druze family in the Golan Heights, an area rich in history and culture, spanning Syria and Israel. I visited Robben Island in South Africa, where Nelson Mandela was incarcerated during Apartheid, a profoundly moving experience. I celebrated a memorable birthday climbing Machu Picchu, marveling at the ancient Incan ruins. I camped with the protesters of the Occupy Wall Street movement in New York, witnessing firsthand the passionate advocacy for social and economic change. These are just a few highlights from my travels, and I'm always eager for new experiences and stories to share.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm eager to learn about your culture, traditions, and any unique skills or hobbies you have. Whether it’s learning a new recipe, hearing about your travel adventures, or picking up a few words in your language, I'm always excited to expand my horizons. I love sharing stories and meaningful conversations. I can offer tips and recommendations for exploring Brasília and other parts of Brazil. I'm also happy to share my home, offering a comfortable and welcoming space for you to relax and feel at home during your stay.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I love sharing stories from my travels across over 10 countries and can chat with you in English, Portuguese, or Spanish. Whether it's teaching you how to cook a Brazilian dish, giving tips on exploring the country, or sharing insights into Brazilian music and culture, I'm here to have an enjoyable experience. I'm also excited to hear about your stories and have meaningful conversations about life and the world.
