What I Can Share with Hosts
In my travels, I had the opportunity to meet a native Kichwa family in the Amazon jungle in Tena, Ecuador. They are willing to receive travelers from worldwide in a very simple place surrounded by nature with cristalyne waterfalls, a paradise if u like the jungle.
You are invited to this magnificent place in Tena, and spend some nights, disconnect from city stress, all you have to do is help with the local farming, if you wish, help with the cooking and learn some Kichwa and Spanish.
Because this is a different type of lodging, please consider the following facts : ** Lodgings could be simple beds and enough blankets. ** The family does not speak English, only Spanish, so its a great opportunity to practice. ** No wifi or intermittent. ** There is electricity to recharge your cell phone. ** Bring a book and small lamp for reading at night. ** Bring swimwear, suncream, strong sandals, light clothes but a sweater for sometimes cold nights, and also a waterproof jacket or umbrella (if u have it). It rains anytime with 90% humidity, your toiletries, your toilet paper, your medicines, as you will be in the middle of nowhere, silence and peace.
No air conditioners, no fans, no hot showers, only natural/cold ones, but it is so hot, that you do not really care, moskito repellent.
Yes, there are normal toilets. You can use the kitchen and garden areas. ** You can help the family in their crops of yuca and bananas or any chores they may need help with. ** It will be great if you want to support the family (optional) with a garden rake that is needed for the crops, the cost is USD 5, that you can donate and will be a work tool.
** The property is located 40 minutes from Tena city. If you are carnivorous or vegetarian, you can prepare your meals as well, so you must buy them in advance In the city so you can cook yourself.
** MEETING POINT: Tena bus station (in front there is a TIA supermarket and local food market). Try to arrive during morning hours (no buses after 3-4pm to the jungle place). From there, you take a local bus for about one hour towards the jungle place nearby Cando area. One family member can meet you in Tena bus station if you arrive in the morning. If u arrive late, make sure to spend the first night in Tena city and continue the next day to this jungle place.
