Czesc! Hello! Annyong! Ciao! Hola! Bonjour! Hej Hej! Asylum Alaikum! Hallo! Merhaba! Salam! Ne Hao!
My name is Victoria and I have a travelers heart. I am inspired and at my best when I'm learning about cultures, phrases from any language, and all kinds of history (but mostly WWII). I love to travel and I love to experience new things that I have never seen before. I am incredibly open minded and accepting to everyone. I am very optimistic and ready to take on anything!
I am determined to learn another language. But now I am on my fourth language (Turkish) and still failing. :P In other words, I am the master of elementary level languages. Yes, I can say a lot of bullshit in at least 10 languages.
I studied International Studies and History during my BA and am working on my MA in Central and Eastern European Studies. My thesis is on the Holocaust, however.
I am now teaching English in South Korea. I technically live in Changwon but realistically/actually, I live in Jinhae - 30 minutes from Changwon. However, we have the cherry blossom festival every year in April so maybe I can be useful then.
I'm on this Earth to live. My definition of living isn't tied to the idea of going to school, getting married, having kids, grow old. My definition is to enrich by traveling for ultimate fulfillment. See the world, learn the world, meet the world, and in return show/tell the other half of the world. I've learned more about myself and the world by traveling, not by formal education. The greatest rich is those memories obtained.
If you're interested, I've got a blog which is mostly for photography and documenting my travel experiences:
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I am mostly interested in meeting up for a drink or site seeing. I'm never really in a good situation to host as I always seem to be a poor student sharing a flat with people who aren't CS savvy. But I definitely love showing people the sites!
I've met quite a few amazing people from couchsurfing! Most of the people you meet here are really open-minded and even sometimes inspiring. :) Travelers have a sort of beauty/charm to them in that they're not afraid to break out of the secluded bubble that they were raised in. This is a rare trait and a beautiful one. Anyone who can do that, can easily be a friend of mine.
The beauty and history this world has to offer. :)
Music, Movies, and Books
I like to read personal stories so Autobiographies. Something about a real struggle keeps me interested.
I watch too many movies to list. I am open to films from all countries. Everything is Illuminated and Titanic are at the top though. haha
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Camping in Wadi Rum with a Bedouin family in Jordan. Traditional bedouin music was played underneath the stars whilst sipping amazing tea. The children danced around the fire. There was no other feeling like it! Probably tied with trekking in Kalaw, Myanmar.
Teach, Learn, Share
I like to cook Italian.
I like to bake American desserts.
I can teach English but I am sure you already speak English if I am meeting you. haha. I can also teach you about my travels or my cultures I have come across. Like a year and a half with a Saudi boyfriend, an au pair in Belgium, or living in Poland, Turkey, or S. Korea. ;)
