About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To travel and record the ancient healing practices of the world and grow in myself spiritually.

ABOUT ME

I was born and raised on the west coast of the United States; but I have never felt at home here. I have never understood or agreed with the values I am told are "American". To each their own but those values are not for me. I have also always felt something deeper to my life and in the last few years I have felt myself being called to be a healer in this world. So I set my sights on the old world and far away lands that have housed ancient mysteries and healing practices that have, sadly, fallen to the side of many societies due to encroachment of modern medicine. Now I am not saying modern medicine is bad but I believe there needs to be more to healing than providing a few pills that were invented in a lab somewhere. That only masks the symptoms and does nothing to help treat the cause. I search to bring a more rounded approach. To that end I have sought out a born and raised Shaman to teach me what I can learn from that tradition and I seek to learn more. There are so many spiritual traditions that just one can't incorporate everything; some get close, but none are perfect. So I begin my walk about to seek out ancient healing techniques and to take a pilgrimage. I seek to travel from The United Kingdom to Nepal. In Nepal I hope to persuade the monks to allow me to stay with them and study a while. The wind has been calling me back to that part of the world for all my life and now I will undertake that journey. To find my wisdom and to find myself in the process.

As far as who I am, well my name is Joel and I was taught the world is a wide and wondrous place; why limit your view of life to just one view point? My ancestors were from Scotland, Peebles in fact, and I have always felt a calling to return home. I have never been to that part of the world yet but it feels like home all the same. I am 26 and circumstances in my life have afforded me a chance to follow this dream and become someone more than who I am today. I am currently planning for a departure in late February or early March. I do not know how long I will be gone for but if what I see in my mind comes to pass I will hopefully be traveling and learning for a few years. But matters of the spirit tend to work on their own time table so all I can do is make myself as available to be moved by the winds as one can be. The idea of renunciation is a enticing one.

PHILOSOPHY

Life is different for every person. Even for two exact twins the world is different for each. The Universe and it's energy is in a constant state of flux. Everything is shifting to include all realms of possibilities at every second. I believe that everything is composed of the same Universal energy and that there is something beyond what we can see and experience in our normal waking lives.
The world is your exercise book. It is not reality, but you may express reality there. You are also free to write nonsense, or lies, or tear the pages if you so choose. I also believe in fate, in a certain light. I believe fate is what I call a "preferred" path for our journey in this life. It's the path that best fits with the gifts and talents and outlook on life for this time around. Life however allows for chance, so fate is not a guarantee, only the preferred path. I also believe that our individual energy is both separate and infinitely connected to the Universal energy and that our individual energy makes many trips into a human shell. For what ends are beyond my view at this time, but I am confident I will remember once I return back to the all.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I actually just found out about this site from a friend who knew about it. It's amazing to me to find like minded people around the world who are willing to open their homes and their hearts and help take one more step in making this world a better place. I will hopefully meet plenty of new and interesting people on here and help spread the word about this site. When things settle down a little more for me I hope to be able to host as well.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Stood at the top of an ancient temple in Southern Mexico that looked out over the top of the entire forest.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am currently learning the ways and matters of the spirit and heart. I don't have any specific ideas to teach but I am open to teaching anything that I do know and I am and always will be willing to listen to a problem and provide a guiding voice and shoulder if needed.
