About Me

To live a passionate and adventurous life.

I am fulfilling my life long dream of traveling around the world for at least one year, starting in the summer of 2015!

I was born to be a traveler and am fascinated with cultures and new places. I am half-Russian and half-Cuban and was born in St. Petersburg, Russia, and have lived in Cuba, Canada, United States, Tajikistan, the UK, and Iraq.

I just spent two years living in Iraq and working for an international NGO. Two years in this country is enough to drive anyone crazy, so I'm taking a year to recover from that experience. And yes, I have countless stories to share from that experience. :-)

I've traveled quite a bit in the last four years. I backpacked for 2.5 months two summers ago through Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Greece, and Turkey. I spent a month in India, lived for a summer in Tajikistan, traveled for two months in Vietnam, Burma, Singapore, and France before moving to the UK. After the UK, I explored areas of the Middle East, went back to the US for 5 months before moving to Iraq after graduating with a masters degree from the States. While in Iraq, I took advantage of a generous vacation policy by traveling to Ethiopia, Seychelles, Japan, Hong Kong, Maldives, Oman, and Sri Lanka. To make a long story short - I can't sit still!

I love to meet new people and absorb new viewpoints. I always come to a new country with an open mind and leave as a more enlightened individual. I am passionate about photography and always have my camera close by.

My country is the world, and my religion is to do good.

I read quite a bit, 3-4 books a month, usually non-fiction and travelogues.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Sleeping under the stars in the Sahara Desert in Morocco, floating in the Dead Sea in Israel, exploring Bagan in Myanmar, wandering around Petra in Jordan, staying at a local's home in a village in Tajikistan, attending a bull jumping ceremony in the Lower Omo Valley in Ethiopia, playing tag with reef fish in the Seychelles, and sailing around the Maldives for a week.

Teach, Learn, Share
