About Me

Hi. I’m Kanoon, from a small town in the North of Thailand called “Phrae” (which you might have never heard of). I worked in tax for close to 7 years in Bangkok, Thailand and KL, Malaysia.

Life looked pretty stable and I had a solid remote job that allowed me to stay close to my parents and my adorable little poodle who is basically my son and my biggest emotional supporter. Despite the comfort and job security I had, deep down something felt missing..... I don't really know how to describe myself except for what I do for work!

So, I decided to quit my job in September 2025 to put myself somewhere far away from home, go back to school and fund myself a master degree in Canada hoping to see a different side of me. I chose to come to Vancouver without knowing much about the city or even Canada in general...just pure excitement (and maybe lots of nervousness) But I’m sure loads of great experiences are ahead of me.

I used to live in Singapore for 3 years for my degree and I visited there nearly every year for the past decade. So, if you are curious, I can also share about the city and my experience there. I have a huge curiosity about the world, new people and stories from different cultures. Food especially Asian cuisine is my other great love. I spend an embarrassing amount of time just deciding what to eat next. If you’re up for some cultural exchange, let’s meet up and make some great memories!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I mostly use Couchsurfing when I travel solo - as the way to find awesome travel buddies, explore new places, share delicious food and make unforgettable memories more than just taking pictures!

Also, amid life's chaos, crazy and hectic things that happened around us, getting chances to meet like-minded people here reignites my hope for kind humanity. All the meetups that I had inspire me a lot in different ways and open up my eyes to new perspectives which I am so grateful for. Human connection is truely amazing and I should definitely connect more!

So far, I have great experiences with most people I met in CS and hope it stays that way 😊

Music, Movies, and Books

🎵 K pop, R and B
📺 Emily in Paris and I mostly enjoy reality shows
📚 Sapiens, The subtle art of not giving a f*ck. But I don't usually read except when it is something to do with work lol

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

🌏 Booked a solo trip to Korea when I was just a minor without my Asian parents’ permission! It was hands down one of the best decisions I’ve ever made, and ever since then, I’ve been hooked on traveling!

📚 Volunteered at a school in an unrest zone in Thailand. It was an eye-opening experience where I met incredible international volunteers from all over the world. Some of them didn’t even speak English, yet somehow, we all understood each other—it was pure human connection at its best!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you Thai, culture, food, etc.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I’d love to share my culture and language with you! Since I’m passionate about cooking, I’d be more than happy to whip up some delicious Thai dishes like Tom Yum, Pad Krapao, or Pad Thai. Just let me know your food allergies and spice tolerance (PS even though I'm Thai, I can't handle lots of spices 😅), and I will try my best to work the magic in the kitchen.
