About Me

Hey Travellers!

Update ... January 2024... here we go again! On February 2 we are leaving for Africa! A dream adventure we were lined up to do in 2020, when, well you know what happened. Now, four years later all four of us have opened our schedules to be able to go! If you are in Africa, maybe the middle east, eastern Europe or Asia, you may hear from one of us in the next 6 months. We know we are spending the first two months in Africa but we are undecided where the road will take us after that. You can be sure we will be back to hosting when we return in August or September 2024!!!

We have hosted and been hosted many times and it has shaped who we are as a family. We love that life has returned back to some kind of normal. It was wonderful to start hosting again ... Couchsurfing is a meaningful, enjoyable part of our life. We look forward to hosting more of you and hopefully stay in some of your homes when we start traveling again!

About us:
We are a family of four who love traveling and being active. Our go to activities are x-c skiing and hockey in the winters, hiking and biking in the summer.

We prefer hosting 1-3 nights so we are able to host more of you. For those of you asking for 1-2 weeks or months, this is not what Couchsurfing is to us, so please look elsewhere. Although we would love to host all of you, it is not possible so please ask but don't be surprised if we have to decline. I think because we are a family we are popular to ask. Although flattered that you would like to meet us :) I received over 500 requests in the first 4 months with Couchsurfing. I have put "maybe accepting guests" because we usually host 2-3 times per month when we are home but get approximately 50-100 requests per month so we only accept those who take the time to read our profile and who we feel a connection with.

About us: We returned from a 7 month backpacking trip through Central and South America in August 2016 and would love to practice our Spanish if you speak it! Our Couchsurfing hosts were wonderful. We feel so blessed to have found this community. During the 2018 summer we took our backpacks and tent to Europe! 2019 we bought an old RV and drove across Canada and back (18,000 km in total) and just last month, July 2023, I couchsurfed again! I met many amazing people and am so grateful for this wonderful community.

If you have read this far, thank you. When you request to stay with us call me Wheely. We would also like to know something about you and why you think we would be a good match for Couchsurfing.

Enjoy your travels!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

When I was in my mid-20's I used a program called Servas in Europe and it was wonderful to have a quiet place to stay away from travellers every once and awhile. It re-energized me for the road ahead. In 2016, my husband Chris and two sons (14 and 11 years old at the time) travelled though Central and South America for 7 months. Before we left we hosted many families/solo travellers and have now been hosted by 24 lovely families/individuals from every country we visited. We are grateful for this opportunity and would like to live vicariously through you until we can travel again.
Please send us your request but tell me what your favourite type of food is so I know you have read our profile. If you are staying more than one night it would be nice if we make the first dinner and you make the second.

Couchsurfing has become an important part of our lives. We embrace all who we host and who have hosted us. It is so much more than a free place to stay. We are interested in sharing stories and learning about you and your culture. We have two wonderful kids who have shared these experiences with us. Everyone who meets them is impressed by their ability to talk to adults and be a part of the hosting experience. Traveling has helped them mature into the two young men we are very proud of. My final request is to mention all four of our names in your email to us. The boys are Jackson (21) … working in Australia with a working visa and Scott (18) … recently graduated from high school in June 2023 and off to explore Europe in September!

Safe travels!

Music, Movies, and Books

We like just about everything. The boys could rattle off more artists than I could.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Jumped out of a plane, and I won't do it again!

Backpacked across Central and South America for nearly seven months January-August 2016! Amazon, Galapagos, San Blas Islands, Salt Flats, Machu Picchu, The Olympic Summer games, Death Road, Chicken Buses, Sandboarding, Volcano Boarding, Paragliding … are among the memories jumping out at me right now!

Renovated and RV with our family and traveled across Canada and back in the summer of 2019.

Next amazing trip: currently on it! Feb-August 2024

Teach, Learn, Share

I love being able to introduce our boys to the world. In 2011 we did a family exchange to Australia and immersed ourselves in the community there. We've travelled across Canada, western USA, Mexico, Fiji and New Zealand with the boys. Now that they are older it was time to go beyond the comfort travelling and just put on our backpacks and go! We spent 7 months in Central and South America and I treasure the experience with our boys. The summer of 2018 we Couchsurfed and camped in Europe for 64 days. Belize and Guatemala was our destination for the Christmas holidays. The summer of 2019 was a cross Canada trip in an old RV. And finally, after 3 years of uncertainty, Jackson is working in Australia, Scott is about to embark on an adventure to Europe and I just returned from a month in Asia -Australia. Good times are back!
We are always dreaming about our next adventure and look forward to hearing about yours!!!

What I Can Share with Hosts

If we request to stay with you we would love to share a bottle of wine (or a cup of tea!) and swap traveling stories. There are still so many places we would like to visit. Hopefully we will inspire each other to follow our dreams and live life to its fullest.
