Traveling is not just about the seeing of sights. Rather, it is a change in life, deep and permanent, that ultimately shifts your world perspective.

My name is Wenwei. Yes, I am blind, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have the same desire to leave my country and see the world.

I spent six weeks in Spain to fulfill a graduation requirement as a Romance Studies major in college. When I graduated, I threw some things into a small suitcase, bought the cheapest flight to Santiago de Chile and lived there for 4 months. Now I am simply traveling around Argentina with my computer, my cell phone, and the juicer I bought in Chile.

If you are reading my profile, you are asking yourself, “why is she traveling by herself?” Well, why does anyone travel by themselves? Ask yourself that and then get back to me.

Why Couchsurfing? Why bother meeting people online?

If there’s anything I’ve learned, a cultural exchange is a mutual effort. Of course, we will exchange customs, food, languages. But being blind also brings its own unique challenges into our exchange. You are free to ask me whatever you’d like. Trust me, you will not offend me. In return, I hope that you will understand where I am coming from, even if you don’t agree with it. Similarly, I will accept your cultural perspectives. The idea is to learn from another, right?

On a completely unrelated note, I speak enough Spanish to cry my way through the airport, sick with worry that I was about to be deported. That’s another reason why I travel, guys. Traveling alone has taught me responsibility and the ability to keep track of myself.
