About Me

CURRENT MISSION

We're all running through life. It's hard to stop, but sometimes you just need to catch your breath. Hopefully, we can take a breather and share our worlds.

ABOUT ME

Hello! My name is Wesley Sanders-- but you can call me Wes. It is so nice to meet you!

Let me tell you a little about myself--

I was born and raised in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, a small town about an hour outside of Washington D.C. My mother is an architect and my father is a carpenter. So naturally, my first love is building. Whether it was a castle built from wooden blocks, an airplane folded from paper, or a fort from sticks in the woods, I have always found a way to build.

Currently, I am a sophomore at Brown University studying Visual Arts. Although my aim is art, I'm naturally curious about everything. By taking classes such as micro economics, art history, neuroscience, creative writing, European history and organizational theory, I have tried to become an engaged, well rounded person.

I have come to a point in my life in which traveling is essential. I can feel it in my bones. I feel this undeniable urge to explore, to meet people, to try different foods, and to share ideas. Isn't that what life is all about?

PHILOSOPHY

I believe in form. It is not what you do in life but how you do it. It doesn't matter whether you're a janitor or a CEO-- it's how you go about what you're doing with your life that makes an impact. If you are engaged with what you're doing and keep a positive attitude, you'll find happiness everywhere you go.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I haven't had any Couch Surfing experience per se, but that doesn't mean I haven't been a guest and hosted guests as well! I believe that if someone is willing to let you into their home, you should do everything in your power to make your stay as easy as possible. It's the little things that matter.(keeping your bedding situation neat and your bags out of the way, washing dishes, etc.)

Interests

I love anything and everything creative that engages the mind and the body. I am a painter, so visiting museums and galleries is a must. My father is a musician so I grew up hearing tons of music, which has helped foster a love for music in my adult life. I play the guitar and trumpet but I enjoy all music! I am a very active person-- I play basketball and soccer or "football" rather. I love reading and playing word games as well. Scrabble anyone?

Music, Movies, and Books

I love biographies. I feel there is so much to learn from the trials and tribulations of those that we idolize. As for music and movies, I try to listen and watch a little of everything!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I moved out of my father's house when I was 16 and have been living on my own ever since. I think that being so young and finding that I was, in fact, capable of supporting myself made me become a more independent and confident person.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am a student artist so I would love to sit down and draw, paint, or build anytime! I also believe that we learn more from communicating with each other than we can in a classroom. So let's talk!
