About Me

Hi fellow couchsurfers! My name is William and I am a young professional working in London. I recently graduated from University of Cambridge having completed a bachelor degree in Economics. I am originally from Shenyang, China (Northeast China close to North Korea) where I grew up and attended school up until I was 18. In 2011, I came to the UK by myself to pursue further studies. I have temporarily lived in Spain for some time as well and I have a keen interest in Spanish language and culture. I am a language enthusiast as you can see from my profile. I love how languages and cultures are interconnected. I feel like learning a new language is seeing old things from a fresh perspective again.

In my spare time, I like listening to all kinds of music, watching series or films, working out in the gym, running on the street, etc. I love having engaging conversations with people on topics such as politics, economics, arts and photography etc. My biggest sport is tennis and I'm afraid I'm not a big football fan. I'm also developing my interests/skills in break dancing, photography, languages.

Lastly, I love travelling and I love travelling like a local and get immersed in local culture. I feel languages shouldn't be a barrier and if I really like somewhere, I will make the effort to learn the language first. e.g. I learned Italian for six months before I went there for the first time. The level of culture exposure was massive when I got there and there was a strong sense of satisfaction as it reflected on my language and cultural studies.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I was recommended by a friend who had wonderful couchsurfing experiences. I've just started and would like to give it a go!

I look forward to meeting people and constantly learning new things.

I'm up for an adventure.

Music, Movies, and Books

Favourite stuff comes and goes - I never really delve on one thing for a long time
a few honorable mentions:

Music: Owl City, Adele, Rihanna, Marshmello, Ed Sheeran, Jay Chou, Ricky Martin, Enrique Iglesias
Film: ’The Shawshank Redemption‘ was pretty good. I recently fell in love with the film 'Call me by your Name'
Books: Harry Potter books, E.M. Forster books

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I was filmed as a main character in a Chinese television programme when I was 10 years old. I acted as a substitute teacher for a day to a class of students. The special programme was made for Teachers' Day in China. The aim was to recognise how we should be grateful for our teachers.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm happy to teach Chinese, English or Spanish. I've done some conversation exchanges with Spanish speakers so I would say I have some 'teaching' experience.

I've taught Mathematics, Economics and English in Summer schools/courses as well.

I'd love to share and learn tips about arts and photography. Maybe gym/workout too if you are a beginner.
