About Me

Its me. Aging out of youth. Returning to the country I left without idea or hope of return. I have recently begun assimilating back into the world. I live on our farm with me and my wife, she's American. We love animals and the natural world. The farm is a funny old place, very dear to us. All my ancestors lived and worked here.

I was traveling for years, just me and the backpack. Hitchhiking for years. I guess I was a kind of a hippy, I mean I had dreadlocks and all that. I don't have dreads anymore but I do have long hair. Still not fully settled. Still not satisfied with the world. Not happy to turn on the news, but not happy with running away from it. We care alot about peace.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

When I was travelling, I was kept alive and my spirit restored to wholeness by literally years of people helping me, being present for me. I was a stranger in a strange land, but people gave me so much, just for years. And for years I lived for that solidarity. I would like to return the favour, to give back, to be on the other side.
I really enjoy meeting different people, listening to them, hearing their story. I have been more deliberate lately about practicing to meet people where they are, not where I think they should be. And having/being a guest makes that practice quite easy, and very fulfilling.

Interests

I have actually had the privilege to be in many different situations, with many different people, in many different places. I think this has helped me develop a sincere and frank curiosity for really so many things. Like I have listed some stuff in the "interests" category, but actually I could list and list and list. Maybe my foundational interest is nature, and everything flows from that.

Music, Movies, and Books

Oh I really like alot of different music. I go through phases of leaning more heavily into one genre then another. I always return to folk and electronic music though. They're like a current running under all the phases.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've seen a dried up river be restored to water by the breaking of its dam.

Teach, Learn, Share

I sometimes struggle with thinking of myself as a teacher. I have been and put myself so much into the role of learner that sometimes it feels exclusive. Sharing sounds nicer, and it anyway better describes what is going on when there is a teaching and learning happening in one space

What I Can Share with Hosts

When I am not busy we can hang out alot, or not, if that's what you prefer. Or you can be busy with me on whatever bit of work is going on, there's always something going on. We are a bit like hermits and don't know the region as well as we would like so in the absence of being able to properly show you round we can explore, together. If you just need a place to crash then that's ok also, I know how good it is sometimes to just be able to be normal and not an interesting talkative foreigner. You can also just chill, play with with the goats or climb a tree or something.
