About Me

I've always been a little old fashioned. The idea of traveling the world is always been a dream of mine. I had always wanted to take a gap year right before college but I didn't have the money for it at the time. Now that I'm more financially sound I've decided it is better late than never.
It scares me that people can be born in one place and also grow old and die there. Only seeing that fraction of a small section of the planet earth. You miss so much. So many cultures and ways of thinking. I mainly want to travel to broaden the way I think about life and experience the other cultures of the world. Learn about the other histories. I've taken Texas history too many times; it's time for something else.
To me the meaning of life is in the experience, so why not experience as much as you can while you are here?

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Technology is on my good and bad side. It's nice that it has made the world a smaller place. Being able to communicate with someone on the other side of the planet is phenomenal. Although it seems to suck people in. Stuck in social media, forgetting to look up from the phone screen and actually be social.
Couchsurfing though I think takes technology in stride, it connects hosts and travelers and gives us both safe options for learning and experiencing new cultures. Having a host gives you your foot in the door to the culture and thinking of the natives.

Interests

I've always been a huge bookworm. Walking down the hallways of my high school with a book between my nose. I just recently took up writing, because I've learned even if it is something terrible I've written, it's something. I've also found that the point of writing is to share. Regardless of if you make money or not. That's what the arts are for. "The arts are not a way to make a living. They are a very humane way of making life more bearable." Kurt Vonnegut said that, who is one of my favorite authors. Lots of inspiration from him. My first favorite author being Douglas Adams, without a doubt.
I also enjoy television way more than I should. Netflix I think is a serious addiction and in a few years we will probably be having Netflix anonymous meetings to recover. Video games are a good time too, when I have the downtime to play them. I'll never outgrow Pokemon. Or legos for that matter. Somethings are always cool.
I also love cooking, and baking. Cooking, I feel like, you should do every day. I mean, you have to eat. So you should practice cooking every day. Eventually you will be great. Some of my food can be seen in the photo album, just for fun.

Music, Movies, and Books

HitchHikers Guide to the Galaxy series, Slaughterhouse 5, Sirens of Titan, Cat's Cradle, Les Miserables, Shogun, anything by Twain.
The first two Godfather films, Grand Budapest Hotel, The Prestige, A Man from Earth.
Portugal. The man, The Decemberists, Death Cab for Cutie, Weezer, Walk the Moon, Elvis, Sinatra. I'm pretty much okay with all music.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am interested in learning anything and everything about where I am staying. I'm going to school for Anthropology so just about anything aligns with my interests.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Recipes, American, and ones I've found on the internet from all around. I would love to cook meals for my hosts, and do dishes too. I have a mess of weird talents too. Maybe some juggling lessons, or if there is a unicycle handy, I could give a lesson on that.
I have an absurd amount of knowledge about tea from working in a tea shop for a year. Which may not sound like a long time, but I am a quick and dedicated learner.

Countries I’ve Visited

England, France, Italy
