About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Getting my short film made and publish my novel!

ABOUT ME

I'm a non-confrontational animal. Laidback but adventurous, if that makes sense. Often the go-to guy for friends who need a listener. I'm generally cavalier about most things - there isn't much that can bother me. I like to think I'm funny! More awkward than funny but still funny. I think. I am a ball of crazy at heart, but a very, very sensible kind of crazy. I am a ball of crazy at heart, but a very, very sensible kind of crazy. I prefer cosy house parties over club nights, roller coasters over drop towers, road trips over flights.

I'm gay but it doesn't do me any defining, but just putting it out here in case it's important for anyone to know. I'm engaged to be married come July!

Doing my BA at the moment in Creative Writing and Literature. I'm also working on a novel and a short film that I intend to develop into a feature length film at some point, if given enough resources. Most of what working experience I've had would be in F&B - worked the bar, waited tables and cleaned both. I'm a very visual person, and at the moment I'm also involved in a photography project set in Gateshead, UK called 100 Faces, where we are photographing real people living real lives and stories in Gateshead, a part of England often stigmatised for being rough, working-class and cultureless with the intention of subverting those stereotypes.

PHILOSOPHY

It's all in the head.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have mostly been using Couchsurfing for all the Events on here! I haven't had the chance to actually couchsurf yet as I usually travel with family so accommodation is covered, but it's been a great way to make new and lasting friendships all over the world for me through all the local events listed on the site. I am however in need of my first ever Couchsurfing host this coming June for my first trip to NYC!

Interests

I write short fiction and scripts (film and theater), hoping to eventually settle in film. Do lots of photography (film and digital) and eat a whole lot of food of all cuisines (as much as my pitiful wallet can afford anyway). I also do some cooking, albeit really experimental cooking. I like bringing cuisines together, and while I've made questionable things (green curry with basil pesto anyone?), I can guarantee that no one have died so far :D Basically, I love the whole process of CREATING :-)

I'm also a runner and badminton player - I'm madly in love with both, great at neither. I have great interest in weapon-based sports - I did kendo (currently taking time off it) and can't wait to get into archery one day.

Needless to say I am deeply into travel, adventure, exploration ... all kinds of the romantic, basically. I enjoy understanding and noticing intersectionality between cultures, people, languages, traditions - I'd like to believe we're all one the same!

I hate to be biased, but I'm especially fond of Japanese culture!

Music, Movies, and Books

I watch all kinds of films regardless of genre and language. Some films that have really stayed with me include American Graffiti, Lost in Translation, Don't Look Now, An Education, Star Wars, The Royal Tenenbaums, True Grit, Only Yesterday, From Up on Poppy Hill, Why Don't You Play in Hell?, The 500 Blows, Hawaii, Oslo, among others - so yes, all sorts! Not so much a buff as I am just a geek!

As with films my musical tastes are wide-ranging and eclectic without geographical borders! I especially enjoy alt rock, jazz and reggae when not listening to film/video game soundtracks, but try me! I am a horrible karaoke singer, but I try my best to belt.

I'm a big fan of Stephen King and Haruki Murakami. At the moment I'm reading Annie Proulx and Jack Kerouac!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Love and be loved!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can

Teach complete beginners badminton!
Teach the few languages I'm fluent in, especially English.
Teach or even cook you some of my bizarre recipes!

I want to

Get fluent at Japanese.
Take up archery.
Take up tennis.
Learn to cook more food!

I'm more than happy to share tips on photography and writing!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I would like to think I can share laughter - it's the best kind of thing to share! My sense of humour goes from all-out bonkers slapstick to really dry and even dark sarcasm, I try to entertain as long as it is mutual!

I am also a storyteller at heart so I think I will have no shortage of stories to tell.

If we go out and do things together you can also rest easy knowing that there will be a personal photographer on your side - or not at all, depends on what you want!

Unless for some reason I want to be alone (nearly never on my travels) I am more than happy to just be company!

Feel free to ask me more :-)
