To travel the World enjoying life for another 6 months before I run out of money!

ABOUT ME

It was once said that if I was any more chilled out I would be horizontal! I like to think of myself as a fun loving individual who is easy to get along with.

I'm a straight guy getting towards my late 20's (with a few grey hairs to prove it).

Love travelling, seeing sights and how other cultures live.

Have met quite a lot of people in the last 6 months that have made me realise that I am not really that intelligent- but I like to think that I can hold down a serious conversation now and again!

I call Newcastle(England) home, it's where my parents are originally from, I have lived there for 8 years and love it. It's a small city, but perfectly formed! I own an apartment there, but am currently on a round the world adventure which started in Jan 2007.

I also like to think that I've achieved a bit in my life to date, and have a few interesting/embarassing/funny stories to tell!

PHILOSOPHY

I don't really have any religious views, but if a God exists, I don't really know why they would want to test our belief in him/her/it?

So far, Buddhism is the closest philosophy to what I believe in. Just live your life doing as much as you can to help other people and I reckon you'll be ok no matter what God you believe in... I guess a bit like My Name is Earl!!!!

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

The instant attraction for a traveller is "A FREE PLACE TO STAY???!!! WHAT!!!! WHY HAVEN'T I HEARD OF THIS BEFORE??!". But then once it has a chance to sink in,it becomes clear what the idea behind the site is- to meet chill people across the world, to make new friends, really experience destinations - "live it" rather than just "visiting it".

That's what appeals to me- nobody knows a place better than the people that live there! And of course I would love to reciprocate once my travels are over. I think a lot of people never make time to "do" the tourist attractions that are close to home and people visiting gives you the perfect excuse.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Nothing on this site as yet! I once couch surfed for a couple of months at my friends place while I waited for my apartment to complete- no complaints as yet!

I love watching and playing sport, but don't have any discernable skill at anything in particular. I love music too and am trying to learn the guitar.

I really enjoy travelling and seeing new places (who doesn't!!!). My round the world route has been:
- Thailand -> Cambodia -> Singapore -> Bali -> Gili Islands -> New Zealand -> Australia -> Thailand -> Vietnam -> Laos..... where I am now

I will be going:
- Australia -> LA -> Vancouver -> San Francisco -> New York -> Columbus -> London

I have also visited quite a few other places in my life, but don't really feel like listing them!

Ok- this could be a massive list. I'm just gonna put genres and a couple of books and movies that come to mind.

Recently really into UK Indie, 90's and independent hip hop, occasionally Drum and Bass / funky house.

Movies- can't wait for the third installment of the Bourne trilogy, Carlitos Way, The Boiler Room, The Aviator (love it when he goes crazy- some classic quotes!), The Insider, The Wedding Singer

Books- Empire of the Sun, The Alchemist, The Wrong Way Home, Michael Moore docubooks.

Radio/Podcasts- Ricky Gervais is classic, Alan Partridge is kind of old school but still funny

TV- Peep Show (classic uk comedy), Seinfeld, Sopranos

OK... just one.... it would have to be remortgaging my apartment, quitting my job and leaving to go travelling for a year!

Er.... not really sure a lot of people would be too interested in my day job skills... but I know quite a bit about travelling in Asia and loads about the UK. Especially where to go if you want to get out of London (which you will want to do cos there's so many other cool places to see in the UK). How to get around cheaply etc.
