About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I wonder and wander and write. I can wonder at my place or wander to yours, but you can be sure I'll write it all down. :)

ABOUT ME

A nomadic lifestyle is a strange one in which to grow up, but that's where it all started for me... and then my daughter began that way as well. I've lived all my life on the road, and being still for 9 years has been strange.

Writing is my passion, and it has born it's fruits in a book of poetry I published in 2010. I hope to publish more in the form of prose, and am currently working on a novel which includes a lot of influence from my lifetime of travel.

I fit precariously into a variety of societal categories which include: mother, lesbian, rocker, artist, native american, socialist, voter, etc. However, I prefer to think "outside" the box.

PHILOSOPHY

I can be most closely related to a Taoist. I believe that there is balance in everything, and adversity is caused by the universe seeking to correct imbalance. I do not believe in "destiny," and yet I believe that everything happens for a reason and serves to either teach us lessons or reward our progress. There are no coincidences.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

In my life, I have always accepted travelers and been accepted by friends. I would like to begin traveling again soon and bring my awesome kid with me. I would also like to share our meager resources with those of a mind to visit the center of our country. There's more here to see than most would think.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

It would be easier for me to describe the experiences I've had while NOT couch surfing being that there are far fewer of them. Having been brought up traveling, I've lived a good portion of my life either in a tent or on someone's couch... and occasionally in a motel or spare bedroom. Until recently in my life I rarely stayed in an area for more than a hand full of months.

I ended up here in Norman, OK because I ran out of gas. I knew I was going to run out of gas and had directed myself toward Norman because I graduated from high school here, and knew that there were couches calling me. After a few days of visiting friends in town I decided to stay, and have been here for 9 years now. I likely would have left several times, but the universe grounded me. That is a story that will not fit in this box though, so I'll leave it for my blog.

Interests

I have a great many interests, but among the top picks are: music, writing, philosophy/theology/mythology, and all sorts of social theory.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love all comic book related movies, though I haven't picked up a comic since junior high. I love the archetypes, and the battle of good and evil playing itself out over and over in so many different costumes. Plenty of other movies also help to sustain this love, but the comics always but it in such simple terms.

I am interested in nearly all forms of music, but I find my comfort in the Punk Rock of the 70s, 80s, and 90s, and on the other side of the coin I love the emotion in a lot of folk, jazz, and blues. I am also fond of country music, specifically from the 50s, 60s, and 70s. And then there's the Industrial, Ambient, and even a bit of Techno on my iTunes. When I put my 45ish Gigs of music on shuffle it is a distinctly schizophrenic experience.

Books, books, and more books!!!! My favorite is The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams. If you know it, that should explain it all. It combines Sci-Fi and socio-political satire in the most gloriously funny ways. I read mostly for fun these days, and less for research than I used to.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

From the bears in Alaska to the hidden villages in Mexico, I have seen a LOT of amazing things. Mathematically, it works out that I was likely conceived during the eruption of Mt. Saint Helen's and was theoretically meant to live a life of amazement. But the most amazing thing I've faced on the road has always been the people I meet.

Teach, Learn, Share

My life long studies have been in the field of belief. 17 years I studied every variety of belief from current to ancient that I could get my hands on. I was looking for truth, but what I found was intrigue and adventure. I have a lot to share about where different belief systems coincide, overlap, and generally agree. There's no point in studying the differences; they're all documented well enough through the history of war.
