Présentation
À propos de moi
Hello! My name is Erica - I was born in Chicago but have lived all over. I grew up in Chile (hablo español, o como decimos en Chile, Castellano). I'm always down for meeting new people, drinking coffee or a good beer, and lounging in a hammock.
I live for an adventure and have lots of fun stories to tell. I play music in a couple of bands so there are some pretty good tour stories, and I tend to go off the beaten path while traveling solo so I usually end up meeting some interesting folks that way.
I try to live simply and with few possessions (although as a musician that can be tough!). I was a vegan and vegetarian for many years. I'm almost always scheming a way to go on vacation and travel.
I'm currently a bilingual fifth grade teacher in the Chicago suburbs. This is a new adventure for me after spending a year on the road traveling across the US! My husband and I live with our snuggle pup, Tucker, and enjoy spending time together and getting to know new friends. We love going hiking and spending time outside, but we're also big on lazy Saturday mornings with good food and lounging around :)
Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I’ve hosted some wonderful people in my home - I love getting to know surfers and their stories and growing the CS community.
Currently I'm prepping my place to host (we just moved into a new house!), but have had the privilege of meeting some incredibly welcoming hosts across the country. I’m forever grateful to every host and feel privileged to have some new friends.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've hosted a number of people in my home, and have had the chance to get to know a lot of interesting people. I usually try to surf while taking road trips and traveling internationally. I love that couchsurfing is all about sharing and connecting with other people. Traveling and collecting new experiences, new tastes, sights, sounds, smells, etc. and meeting new people is why I'm on Couchsurfing.
Centres d'intérêt
Things I like: playing music, dogs, swinging in hammocks, plants, driving motorcycles, picnics, brewing beer, and laughing. Oh, and knitting, baking, traveling, and tandem bicycles. Connecting with other humans over shared interests, learning from one another, being able to see differing opinions, and trying my darndest to not let my introvertedness get in the way of that.
Morceaux de musique, films et livres
I don't read much, but I enjoy reading the Bible and the book of Common Prayer.
I listen to a wide variety of music. Some current favorites are:
Hiss Golden Messenger
Mavis Staples
Phil Cook
Mountain Man
The Dead Tongues
John Prine
Lucy Dacus
Sharon Van Etten
The Tallest Man On Earth
Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue
Spent a week getting lost in Jamaica!
Enseignez, apprenez, partagez
I can teach you how to play guitar! Or mandolin, banjo, ukulele, accordion... there are a ton of instruments at my house, and I can at least get you started if I have the time. I play in a folk band and have been teaching music for years - it's what I love to do.
I also cook a lot of vegan food at home. I'm always into sharing a meal and good conversation!
Ce que j'aimerais partager avec mes hôtes
I'd love to share a meal, hear your stories, what interests you and why you live where you do! Of course, I teach music for a living so if you're interested in learning a bit of that I can also get you started.
Mostly I can share of myself - time to listen, connect, and learn from each other.
